Valeriya Novodvorskaya Life

Valeriya Novodvorskaya (Russian: алери ленина оводворска; 17 May 1950 – July 2014) was a Soviet dissident, author, and liberal politician. She was both the founder and chairwoman of the Democratic Union party as well as a member of The New Times' editorial board.

Personal life

Novodvorskaya remained in a flat with her mother Nina Fyodorovna (ина новоровка), a pediatrician, and cat Stasik throughout her life. They rented a dacha in Kratovo in the summers. She was a fan of swimming, science fiction, theater, and cats.

Novodvorskaya was baptized by the noncanonical Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church Reunited in 1990. She attended the Russian Orthodox Church until her death, but she was extremely critical of the Russian Orthodox Church. "She was more of a Christian than I was," Yakov Krotov said of her priest.
