Udonis Haslem Life

Udonis Johneal Haslem (born June 9, 1980) is an American professional basketball player for the National Basketball Association's Miami Heat.

He played college basketball for the Florida Gators, where he was a key member of four NCAA tournament teams.

He played basketball in France for a year and then signed with the Miami Heat in 2003.

He has won three NBA championships while playing for the Heat.

Early life

Haslem was born in Miami. John, his father, played basketball for the Stetson Hatters from 1972 to 1974. Debra, his mother, was born in Puerto Rico. Haslem attended Wolfson High School in Jacksonville, Florida, and then Miami Senior High School in Miami. He coached Miami High School to state titles in 1997 and 1998 (the first two in a row), alongside Steve Blake, a promising NBA player. Former South Carolina head coach Frank Martin coached the team.

However, a Miami New Times probe revealed that Haslem, Blake, and several other players had violated residency laws. Although he appeared to live in Miami, the New Times revealed that he lived in Miramar, New Mexico. His official school address was a long-time Miami High booster's efficiency apartment, which was also a breach of Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) rules. As a result, Miami High was stripped of its 1998 title and ordered to forfeit its entire schedule.

Personal life

Haslem is married to Faith Rein-Haslem, a sports broadcaster who appeared for 14 years, and he's been married for 14 years. Rein met him in 1999 while attending the University of Florida, where she was a member of the Florida Gators track and field team. The couple have three children. He has two brothers and three sisters.

Udonis Haslem Career

College career

Haslem has received a scholarship to attend the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, where he served with coach Billy Donovan's Gators teams from 1998 to 2002, while majoring in leisure service management. He was part of Donovan's 1998 recruiting class that boosted the Florida Gators basketball program's national recognition, as well as future Miami Heat teammate Mike Miller. The team made it to the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship game in his sophomore season before falling to the Michigan State Spartans 89-76. For the first time in the program's history, the Gators received NCAA tournament invitations four years in a row during his college career. Haslem averaged 13.7 points per game and 6.7 rebounds per game during his time with Florida. He has served on the All-Southeastern Conference (SEC) staff four times, including as the third team in 1999 and 2000, and the first team in 2001 and 2002. Haslem also ranks third in team scoring (1,782) and tenth in rebounds (831). In 2012, he was inducted into the University of Florida Athletic Hall of Fame as a "Gator Great" in 2012.

Professional career

Haslem went undrafted in the 2002 NBA draft mainly due to his lack of size; he measured only 6 ft 6 in (1.98 m) at the NBA pre-draft camp. He accepted an invitation to join the Atlanta Hawks for training camp and established their roster for the Shaw's Pro Summer League. Haslem was activated by the Hawks before the 2002-03 NBA season began.

Haslem has signed the French LNB Pro A's Chalon-Sur-Saône. He was born in France and weighed in at nearly 300 pounds (140 kg). He lost 50 pounds (23 kg) in eight months while in France. Haslem's one-season with the team saw him average 16.1 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.

Haslem signed with his hometown team, the Miami Heat, on August 6, 2003. He competed in the Rookie Challenge during All-Star weekend, earned NBA All-Rookie Second Team honors, and helped the Heat advance to the Eastern Conference Semifinals as a rookie.

Haslem started playing in all 80 games in which he appeared, scoring 10.9 points, a career-high 9.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 33.4 minutes per game. At the time, his.540 field goal percentage ranked fifth on the Heat's all-time single-season list. His.540 field goal percentage also ranked fourth in the NBA, placing him in fourth place. For the second year in a row, Haslem appeared in the Rookie Challenge for the second year in a row, this time for the sophomore team.

Haslem re-signed with the Heat in August 2005. With a 4–2 win over the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals in June 2006, he helped the Heat win their maiden NBA Championship. In the championship-clinching game six, Haslem had 17 points and ten rebounds.

In a 113-106 victory over the New Jersey Nets on November 10, 2006, Haslem scored a career-high 28 points.

During the Heat's 117-87 loss to the Boston Celtics, Haslem, the only Miami player to start all 43 games of the 2007–08 season, sustained a sprained left ankle. On February 23, he returned to action, but only to play in five games before being suspended for the remainder of the season after reggravating the ankle injury against the Golden State Warriors on March 7. In 2007, he averaged 12.0 points per game.

Haslem's longest-tenured contract with the Heat in July 2010 was worth around $20 million to remain with the Heat. The deal cost him less than he would have earned if he had accepted more lucrative offers from the Dallas Mavericks or Denver Nuggets. LeBron James and Chris Bosh teaming up with Dwyane Wade was a part of a new-look Heat roster. Haslem sustained a torn ligament in his foot in November 2010, which put him off for the remainder of the regular season. In May 2011, he returned to action in the playoffs. In 2011, the Heat were defeated in six games by the Dallas Mavericks in June.

Haslem was a member of the Heat Heat in 2012 and he helped the Heat return to the NBA Finals. The team defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder in five games, with Haslem winning his second championship.

Haslem defeated Alonzo Mourning in November 2012 to become the franchise's highest rebounder in total rebounds, beating Mourning's previous record of 4,807. Haslem was also the first undrafted player to lead a franchise in rebuilding. Haslem won his third championship in June 2013 after the Heat beat the San Antonio Spurs in seven games in the NBA Finals. Haslem claimed he had appeared in much of the 2012-2013 season with a torn right meniscus.

Haslem lost the rotation position he had long occupied from 2013-2014. As the season progressed, his on-court time began to decline dramatically. Haslem played in just seven games in January and February, with only two minutes between January 21 and February 27. Haslem appeared in just 46 games in 2013-2014, averaging 3.8 points and 3.8 rebounds. For the fourth year in a row, the Heat were back in the NBA Finals in 2014, where the Spurs defeated them in five games. Haslem decided to miss out on the final year of his deal following the 2013–14 season.

Haslem re-signed with the Heat on a two-year contract in July 2014. In 2016, 2017, and 2018, he re-signed with the Heat on one-year contracts. Haslem said in January that the 2018-19 season would be his last. Haslem, however, said in April that he had not ruled if he was retiring, and that no decision would be made until the 2019–20 season.

Haslem re-signed with the Heat on August 6, 2019 to a one-year deal. Haslem appeared in four games during the 2019-20 season, including starting at power forward in a loss to the Indiana Pacers during the Heat's regular season championship. During that season, he became the 30th player in league history to play after turning 40 years old, as well as the first modern era undrafted player to play to that age. Haslem became the oldest active player in the NBA following Vince Carter's resignation during the season's suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Heat defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in six games, but Haslem was on the active roster but did not play in the postseason.

Haslem re-signed with the Heat on November 28, 2020. On May 13, 2021, he appeared in a single game in the 2020–21 season against the Philadelphia 76ers. Haslem scored four points in two minutes off the bench before being suspended as a result of a brawl with Dwight Howard, making him the 40-year-old Haslem the longest player in the last 20 years to get ejected.

Haslem re-signed with the Heat on August 15, 2021.
