Tyler Naquin Career

Amateur career

In the 33rd round of the 2009 Major League Baseball draft, the Baltimore Orioles selected Naquin. Naquin decided to enroll at Texas A&M University in order to play college baseball for the Texas A&M Aggies baseball team after considering joining the Orioles. In 2011, Naquin was named Big 12 Conference Baseball Player of the Year.

Professional career

In the first round of the 2012 Major League Baseball draft, the Cleveland Indians selected Naquin, the 15th overall pick. He signed and made his professional debut with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers of the Rookie-level New York-Penn League, batting.270 in 36 games.

In 126 total games between the two teams, Naquin played for the Carolina Mudcats of the Class A-Advanced Carolina League and the Akron Aeros of the Class A-Advanced Carolina League and the Akron Aeros of the Class AA Eastern League, scoring.269 with ten home runs, 48 RBIs, and 15 stolen bases. Naquin was assigned to the Arizona Fall League by the Indians in 2013, and he appeared in the Fall Stars Game. Naquin's 2014 season began with Akron, but in July, they suffered a broken hand. He needed surgery and missed the remainder of the 2014 season. He was batting.313 with four home runs and 30 RBIs in 76 games for Akron before his injury. Naquin joined Akron in the 2015 season. In June, the Indians introduced him to the Columbus Clippers of the Class AAA International League. Nevertheless, he was limited to 50 games played with Columbus due to a concussion and soreness in his right hip. With seven home runs and 27 RBIs, he hit.300/.446 in 84 games between Akron and Columbus. The Indians welcomed Naquin to their 40-man roster following the 2015 season.

Naquin remained at the Indians' plant in Arizona to participate in strength training after the 2015 season. He trained for a spot on the Indians' 25-man roster during spring training in 2016, and was selected to the Opening Day roster. For June and July 2016, Naquin was named American League Rookie of the Month. The Indians defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2 after Naquin took a walk-off inside the park home run on August 19. He became the first Indians batter to run on a walk off inside the park, according to Braggo Roth, who did the feat in 1916. He hit.296 with 14 home runs, 43 RBIs, and 18 doubles in 116 games.

Naquin joined Cleveland in 2017. However, he was hampered with injuries and struggled with the Indians, and he only appeared in 19 games for Cleveland, where he hit.216. He spent the majority of the year with Columbus, where he hit.298/.475 with ten home runs and 51 RBIs in 80 games.

Overall, with the Cleveland Indians in 2020, Naquin batted.218 with four home runs and 20 RBIs in 40 games. Naquin did not have a contract for the 2021 season before the December 2, 2020, deadline, making him a free agent.

Naquin signed a minor league deal with the Cincinnati Reds organization on February 18, 2021, which also included an invitation to spring training. Naquin was chosen to the 40-man roster on March 29, 2021.

In 2021, Naquin appeared in 127 games for Cincinnati, averaging.270 batting average, 19 home runs, and 70 RBIs.

The Reds traded Naquin and Phil Diehl to the New York Mets for minor league prospects Jose Acu'a and Hector Rodroez on July 28, 2022.
