The NHL is expected to reverse course and lift a ban that was introduced just two weeks earlier that will prohibit players from using rainbow-colored stick tape. Since the suspension was revealed, a number of players have spoken out against the policy, and one player, Arizona Coyotes defenseman Travis Dermott, has already flouted the league's ban. According to first reports from SportsNet, Elliotte Friedman, the NHL Players Association and the NHL Player Inclusion Coalition has signed an agreement to give athletes the ability to use the tape if they so desired.

Travis Dermott, the Arizona Coyotes' defender, knew he was risking his life to stand out in becoming the first player to openly condemn the NHL's decision against the use of rainbow colored Pride Tape. Dermott, who is on a one-year, two-way deal, and he could be sent to the minor leagues at any time, decided to do it anyway. Dermott went to the ice nonetheless, knowing the risks (the NHL says the situation will be handled in due course), but with a strip of rainbow-colored tape on his hockey stick, he took to the ice nonetheless.

Travis Dermott, a defensive guard for the Arizona Coyotes, used the product on his stick in what is likely to be the first of many instances of flouting the National Hockey League's ban banning the use of Pride Tape. Dermott was seen with just a small strip of tape at the top of his hockey stick during a Saturday night game against the Anaheim Ducks. It's the first time a player in the league has used the product after it was barred in the new in a series of anti-LGBTQ+ initiatives enforced by the league.
