Tony Ross Life

Anthony Lee Ross (born 10 August 1938) is a British illustrator and author of children's picture books.

He is best known for writing and illustrating his Little Princess books as well as illustrating Francesca Simon's Horrid Henry series, both of which have since been adapted into a TV series based on his artwork.

David Walliams' drawings are also included in this series.

He has also illustrated the Amber Brown series by Paula Danziger, the Dr.

Jeanne Willis' Xargle story and Lynne Reid Banks' Harry The Poisonous Centipede series are both available.

Early life

Ross was born in London on August 10th, 1938. Eric Turle Lee Ross and Effie Ross (née Griffiths) are his parents. Helsby Grammar School and Design studied at the Liverpool School of Art and Design in Liverpool.

Career

Ross has had many jobs, including a cartoonist, graphic designer, then art director at an advertising agency. In 1976, his long association with the fledgling Andersen Press began with the publication of his re-telling of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. For several years he was senior lecturer in art and head of the illustration course at Manchester Polytechnic.
