Tim Ryan Life

Timothy John Ryan (born July 16, 1973) is an American politician and former presidential candidate running for the 13th congressional district in Ohio since 2003.

The district, which was ranked as the 17th district from 2003 to 2013, is home to a huge area of northeast Ohio, ranging from Youngstown to Akron.

Ryan is a member of the Democratic Party. After graduating from Bowling Green State University, Ryan spent time as an aide to Congressman Jim Traficant in Niles, Ohio.

He served in the Ohio Senate from 2001 to 2002 before winning the election to replace Traficant.

Ryan attempted unsuccessfully to depose Nancy Pelosi as the House Democratic leader in November 2016. Ryan ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020.

On October 24, 2019, he halted his campaign to run for re-election in Ohio's 13th congressional district.

Personal life

Ryan married Andrea Zetts, his second wife, in 2013; the couple has lived in Howland Township, Ohio, since that year. Brady, their son, was born in 2014. Ryan also lives with Zett's two children from his previous marriage.

Early life and career

Ryan was born in Niles, Ohio, and the son of Rochelle Maria (Rizzi) and Allen Leroy Ryan; he is of Irish and Italian descents. Ryan's parents divorced when he was seven years old, and Ryan was raised by his mother. Ryan graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in Warren, where he competed football as a quarterback and coached junior high basketball. He was recruited to play football at Youngstown State University, but a knee injury ended his playing career and he transferred to Bowling Green State University.

Ryan received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Bowling Green in 1995 and was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He joined Ohio congressman Jim Traficant's staff after college. In 2000, Ryan obtained a Juris Doctor degree from Franklin Pierce Law Center in Concord, New Hampshire. He served in the Ohio State Senate from 2000 to 2002.
