In 1946 he became deputy of the Belgian parliament for the PSC-CVP.
Between 25 April 1961 and 28 July 1965 he was the 39th Prime Minister of Belgium.
Personal life
On 26 August 1944, Theo Lefèvre married Marie-José Billiaert (1918–1998). They had three children.
Political career
Théo Lefèvre was elected to the Chamber of Representatives in 1946 and served until 1971, when he became a member of the Belgian Senate (1971-1973).
Lefèvre, the PSC-CVP's Chairman, was born in September 1950 (1950-1961). He was elected Minister of State in December 1958.
Lefèvre was the Prime Minister of a coalition government led by the Belgian socialists in 1961, following the fall of the fourth government of Gaston Eyskens and the subsequent snap election. The Belgian army was deployed in Congo during this period (Operation Dragon Rouge). His government faced widespread resistance, and the ambitious health-care reform was only successful as a result of significant compromises made by the government. Lefèvre lost the 1965 elections and was barred from the next government, which was a mixture of Christian-democrats and liberals, after becoming unpopular.
Lefèvre was revisited in 1968-1972 as a minister without portfolio under leadership led by Gaston Eyskens (Eyskens V) as a minister without portfolio charged with scientific policy (1968-1972). He became the state secretary for scientific policy in 1972 (Eysken VI) in 1972 (Jan. 1972 - January 1973).
