Tara Blaise Career

Early career

Tara, the daughter of an architect and a drama teacher, was introduced to drama and music at an early age, teaching voice and drama in the Royal Irish Academy of Music.

Tara Blaise's singing career began at 16 when she formed Les Le Le Le Le Lemmes with school friends, but it was during her time as a backing singer with Dublin's The Wilde Oscars that first caught her interest in the Irish music scene.

They followed Igloo after The Wilde Oscars, making a name for themselves on the Irish live circuit, and released a number of well-received singles. When much-famous band Kaydee came to her after their singer resigned, Blaise agreed to join. The Kaydee album on EMI was re-recorded to include Tara's vocals and was received with raves. However, despite regular touring, including a Midem display and a London live club residency, Kaydee has never quite hit the big time.

Tara received a call from a friend who linked her to John Hughes, (The Corrs' Musical Director, and a former musician with Minor Detail), who had just decided to go solo.

John Hughes was in the middle of his own instrumental album (Wild Ocean, 2004) by 14th Floor Records/Warner UK) and was looking for a vocalist/lyricist. They worked on a single track, 'Dancing in the Wind,' and the group did so well that they released another, 'Come Away.' Tara took the time to complete a Drama at Dublin's Gaiety School of Acting, finishing in time to add vocals to 'Deo,' the album's first single. Tara appears in the film 'Deo', shot in County Antrim, as well as The Giant's Causeway and 'Dancing in the Wind'.

John Hughes gave her an album deal on his own Spokes label and sent her to Los Angeles to collaborate with Corrs producer Olle Romo, resulting in her debut album Dancing on Tables Barefoot. 'Fool for Love' was Tara's first solo album by Tara Blaise, mainly featuring Tara's voice and a string quartet.

Both 'Fool for Love' and 'Paperback Cliché' were playlisted by BBC Radio 2 in the United Kingdom, and Tara covered a lot ground with a tour of UK regional radio stations, performing with Corrs guitarist Anthony Drennan.

'Paperback Cliché' was a big radio success in Ireland, grossing more than 400 plays and ranked No. 2 in the Irish artist airplay chart, and was included in the film Tara Road. Dancing on Tables Barefoot was released in 2005 and Hot Press characterized it as a "warm and authentic record, infused with a real sense of personal exploration, and delivered with a mix of emotion and panache in equal measure." 'Pretty much everything here could be a single,' the Sunday Times said.'

In the summer of 2005, live shows included The Isle of Wight Festival (where a video was shot for the third single 'The Three Degrees'), T in the Park, The Secret Garden, V Festivals in Chelmsford & Staffs, and the Oxegen Festival in Ireland (Naas, County Kildare). Blaise headlined London's Bush Hall in September 2005 and her first headlining Irish tour, culminating in a Dublin display at the Sugar Club in November.

In Spain in February 2006, a slightly different Dancing on Tables Barefoot label, which was part of the Warner Music Group, was released. 'The Three Degrees' was their first single and debuted at number 9 in the Spanish airplay Chart. In early March, Tara and guitarist Anthony Drennan appeared in Spain to promote the album, and the album was released in late June/early July.

Tara toured Spain in July 2006 to promote the second single 'Paperback Cliché', as well as in more live in-store performances in FNAC (Madrid) and Discos Castello (Barcelona). These appearances, which were accompanied by Irish guitarists Anthony Drennan and Conor Brady, revealed a future acoustic display.

Tara opened for Michael Ball in March and April 2007 on his 23-date UK tour. Tara introduced 'All at the Start' in June 2007 and was featured on 'The Tao of Bergerac, a comedy show performed by Will Smith and Roger Drew on BBC Radio 4, which was later released. On his Irish tour, Brian Kennedy opened in April and May 2008. 'Fall at the Start' is also included on Blaise's second album Great Escape, which was released in May 2008.

The 'Breathe' and 'Make You' are two current hits on Great Escape.' Robert John 'Make You' is a film that was inspired by Olle Romo's colleague. 'Breathe' was released in March with a UK CD release on August 8, 2008. Blaise's website was redesigned in October 2008.

Tara performed a song in 2009 as part of the Eurovision Song Contest, which was a potential Irish entry. Billy Farrell co-wrote the song and John Hughes contributed. However, the band did not qualify for the Irish finals.

Blaise was back in the studio recording for his latest album in January 2010.

Blaise's latest self-penned song Our New Horizon was released in March 2012.

Justin Hayward, Russell Watson, and Chris Thompson appeared in the first stage production of Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds in April 2006. The tour toured the United Kingdom (including the Royal Albert Hall and Wembley Arena where the DVD was shot) and Ireland, March 13-30, 2006, and Trafalgar Square, where Tara opened the show.

Blaise is a member of the cast of the long-running touring play Seven Deadly Sins Four Deadly Sinners, a play by Marc Sinden, who appeared in April 2009 in Barbados and July 2010 in Guernsey, Channel Islands.

Blaise appeared in The Rivals, a performance by Richard Brinsley Sheridan at the Abbey Theatre in 2009. Blaise appeared in the short film Dental Breakdown, which was on display at the Corona Cork Film Festival in 2009. Tara appeared in Luke McManus' 2011 short film 'The Opening.' Valerie O'Connor, Barry Ward, and Mark O'Halloran were among the cast members.

Blaise appeared on the radio show Off the Rails in 2009.

Blaise was nominated in the category Best Irish Female Artist at the 2009 Meteor Awards; she lost to Imelda May.

Tara surprisingly applied for the first series of reality talent shows The Voice of Ireland, but it was difficult to find a single coach despite making it through the first auditions and winning a spot at the blind auditions. In the press, her participation in the competition (Bon Jovi's Livin' on A Prayer) was criticized because she didn't have a pro recording contract before.
