Life and career
Taim Hasan, a native of Al-Shaykh Badr, was born in Tartus, Syria's second-largest port city, on February 17, 1976. He and his family immigrated to Damascus when he was 4 or 5 years old. He comes from a middle-class Syrian family with no prior involvement in the film industry. His father, who completed his education in Germany, is a German language tutor, whereas his mother is an Arabic language tutor. On July 1, 2004, he married Dima Bayaa, a Syrian actress, and the two children, Ward and Fahad, were born. He has confirmed that he was refused admission to the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts first time. However, when he applied for the second time in front of a committee led by Syrian actor Jamal Suliman, who was able to see the high hopes and promise in Hassan, he was accepted. Hassan came to prominence in some of the most well-known Syrian television series since graduating from the High Institute for Dramatic Arts in 2001. In the Syrian film The Philanderer Salem directed by Syrian director Hatem Ali, his first remembered role came in the year 2000 (while still completing his degree at the High Institute for Performing Arts). Hassan reprised his role in Saladin's film, in which Hassan played "the Fatimid Caliph Al-Aded Ledin Allah" for the following year. Hassan has appeared in a number of Syrian films with some of Syria's most well-known and respected actors such as Jamal Suliman and Ayman Zidan by the year 2006.
Hassan was offered to take on King Farouk, a big project in Egypt, after finishing his role in the series "Along Days," a romantic drama in which he appeared in a leading role. Despite the fact that this was not the first time Hassan has been given the title of a major historical figure, he appeared in the film "Nizar Qabbani" in 2005, Syria's most popular poet, Nizar Qabbani. Hassan was actually approached after a number of other Egyptian actors had ruled out the role of Farouk, according to a later report. Not only was Hassan able to save a project that Dr. Lamis Gaber had spent the previous 15 years researching and writing, but he and a team were able to turn it into a drama. Farouk, a resemblance to the Egyptian king, was reportedly forced to shave his hair during the four and a half months of firing, in addition to wearing a body suit and heavy makeup to mimic Farouk's last years on the throne.
Hassan received the Gold Medal in the Best Actor's Award category at the Cairo Festival for Arab Media in 2007 for the title role in the Egyptian hit television series "King Farouk."
Conflict on the Sand, Hasan's last television series, which was shot in Morocco and Syria, was released in Ramadan of 2008 and was seen by some commentators as a revival of Beduin's Beduin series in Arabic drama. The television series, which is set in the Gulf Beduin desert at the start of the 18th century, stars Jordanian actor Saba Mubarak and Syrian actor Abdel Moneim Al Amayri, Hasan Awayti, and Basil Khayyat and is written by Hany al-Saady. The series was produced by Dubai Media Incorporated in collaboration with Picture for Media Productions, a Syrian production company owned by prominent Syrian director Hatem Ali. Its estimated cost was more than $6 million, based on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's vision and poetry.
Hasan has recently completed filming his first cinematic role in Egypt, Mecano, which is set for worldwide release on January 28, 2009. Khaled El Sawi, a Lebanese actress, and Egyptian actor Nour are also starring. This psycho-drama tells the tale of a young architect who is suffering from a rare disease that affects his short-term memory and who falls in love with Amira (played by Nour) who aids him in overcoming his ordeal.
Taim is the lead character of all five seasons of Al Hayba's hit Lebanese series Al Hayba, which stars many well-known Arab celebrities, including Muna Wassef, Rouzaina Lazkani, Cyrine Abdelnour, Valerie Abou Chakra, Nadine Nassib Njeim, Dima Kandalaft and Aimée Sayah.
