Sylvie François Meis (born 13 April 1978) is a Dutch television actress and a model of the Dutch East Indies origins.

She is also well-known in Germany.

Personal life

Meis is of partly Indo-European descent, with her father being Dutch-Indonesian and her mother being Belgian.

Meis was in a friendship with footballer Rafael van der Vaart from 2003. The couple married on June 10, 2005, and their son Damián Rafael was born on May 28th, 2006. Some of the media characterized the couple as the "new Beckhams," but both of them denied the allegations, insisting that they prefer to live a normal life.

She revealed on June 16, 2009, that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and had undergone surgery in May 2009. She completed post-operative chemotherapy and has been cancer-free since. Real Madrid wanted to sell Rafael van der Vaart in mid-2009, but the Spaniard refused to go back to Madrid because Sylvie was undergoing cancer therapy there.

Meis confessed to cheating on her husband, claiming that van der Vaart found out that she was having an affair with a KLM airline pilot, which she believed was the end of their marriage. Meis announced their divorce on January 2nd, 2013, after he had struck her in front of their guests. In December 2013, their divorce was finalized. She became engaged to Charbel Aouad on April 12, 2017, but the couple separated in October 2017.

Career

Meis, who was born in Breda, the Netherlands, is a descendent of the Dutch East Indies. She graduated from the University of West Brabant (Dutch: Hogeschool West-Brabant). Aged 18, she decided she wanted to be a model and was cast for a number of casting companies. She rose to fame through work at FoxKids and music station TMF, following her interest in television. She has hosted many events at TMF, including presenting the annual TMF-awards and conducting interviews with international artists such as Britney Spears and Kylie Minogue. In addition, she appears in video clips and the Dutch television series Costa. She also introduced the Pure by Sylvie jewellery collection to the Dutch market. She then hosted the 2008 FIFA World Player of the Year award ceremony.

She began a relationship with Rafael van der Vaart, the Netherlands' Sexiest Female, after being named Netherlands Sexiest Female in 2003. They became Holland's most popular "football pair" after being linked in a large part to their individual careers. After their marriage on June 10, 2005, they gained a following on SBS6, a Dutch television channel, with the broadcast gaining high ratings in the Netherlands; Sylvie took Rafael's last name, van der Vaart.

When Meis and her then husband left Ajax to play for Bundesliga football club Hamburger SV, he moved to Germany. The van der Vaarts migrated to Spain after her husband's 2008 move to Real Madrid. She appeared on Das Supertalent, the German version of Simon Cowell's Got Talent, from 2008 to 2011. Let's Dance, the German equivalent of Strict Come Dancing, took part in her third season in 2010. After the 2010 eruptions of Eyjafjallajökull, Meis replaced the usual German sucht den Superstar judge Nina Eichinger in the final of the 7th season, the latter was stranded in Los Angeles due to flight restrictions. Meis has been a host on Let's Dance with Daniel Hartwich between 2011 and 2017. Viktoria Swarovski, a former actress, was recalled as a judge in 2018 and returned to Das Supertalent instead as a judge.

Meis is one of Germany's most popular entertainers, Linda de Mol, and Rudi Carell.
