Stuart Leslie Braithwaite (born 10 May 1976) is a Scottish multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter.
He is the guitarist of Mogwai, the post rock band for whom he has released nine studio albums.
Early life
Braithwaite's family derives from Flesherin on the Isle of Lewis; he was born and raised in Glasgow.
Braithwaite grew up listening to albums by The Cure, Joy Division, The Stooges, The Velvet Underground, Black Sabbath, and other artists. He attended Strathaven Academy from 1987 to 1993. Braithwaite fronted a band called Deadcat Motorbike, who formed in June 1995 and died in Mogwai. At one point, Braithwaite drummed for Scottish band Eska.
Personal life

Career
Braithwaite and Dominic Aitchison appeared at the Queen Margaret Union in Glasgow on October 10, 1991, and four years later, together with school friend Martin Bulloch, they formed Mogwai.
Braithwaite formed Mighty Joe Young Trio in 2000. Braithwaite performed solo acoustic shows in 2000 and 2002. Braithwaite, Aidan Moffat, and Colin "Sheepy" McPherson released The Sick Anchors, an eponymously named EP. He is also a member of the British alternative rock supergroup Minor Victories.
Braithwaite appeared on a film about Glasgow music and Chemikal Underground Records, titled Lost in France in 2016. Braithwaite (along with members of The Delgados, Franz Ferdinand, and others) were escorted to Mauron, Brittany, to recreate a performance that was only after Mogwai was established. The film features Mogwai live as well as a video of Braithwaite playing Mogwai tracks solo. It also features Braithwaite, Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand, musicians like Emma Pollock, RM Hubbert, and Holy Mountain, as well as interviews with Braithwaite and his old label-mates. Lost in France premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival to largely positive reviews, and Scotland's arts journal, The Skinny, named "Funny, vital and sobering."
