Sonja Sohn Life

Sonja Sohn (born Sonja Williams) is an American actress and producer best known for her appearances as Detective Kima Greggs on HBO's Body of Proof.

She is also known for her role in the independent film Slam, which she co-wrote.

ReWired for Change, a Baltimore community campaign launched by The Wire's founder, led to her current position as the head of a Baltimore community initiative.

Early life

Sonja Denise Williams was born in Fort Benning, Georgia. Her mother was Korean and her father was Black. After her father was stationed in South Korea after the Korean War, her parents met when he was stationed there. She attended and graduated from Warwick High School in Newport News.

Personal life

Sohn married didgeridoo player Adam Plack in 2003. She has two children, both born in 1986 and 1990. Sohn and Plack are divorced as of 2019; Plack is divorced. Sohn was arrested in North Carolina on July 21, 2019 and charged with unlawful possession of cocaine.

Career

Sohn was a slam poet before she was an actress. She was discovered by Marc Levin, who gave her a role in his film Slam, when doing her role on stage. She also wrote lyrics and co-wrote the script for the film. At the Sundance Film Festival, it went on to win the Grand Jury Prize for Dramatic Film. Sohn appeared in small films such as Shaft and Bringing Out the Dead, after making his debut in Slam. Perfume, G, and The Killing Zone were among her freelance films. Kima Greggs, a recurring role on HBO's The Wire, appeared in five seasons.

She struggled with remembering her lines during the first season of The Wire and considered quitting. Toni Halstead has appeared on several episodes of Cold Case as "Toni Halstead." At the 2008 Asian Excellence Awards for her role on The Wire, she was named as the supporting television actress.

She appeared in Step Up 2: The Streets, a Hollywood film in which she was a supporting actress. She appeared in an episode of CBS' The Good Wife in 2008-09, and in 2010 she appeared in a guest star in ABC's Brothers & Sisters. She appeared on Bar Karma in 2011 as a guest star. Samantha Baker appeared in the first two seasons of the medical drama television series Body of Proof starring Dana Delany and Jeri Ryan, which premiered on ABC on March 29, 2011.

Sohn would appear on The Originals' season 2 as the witch Lenore a.k.a. on May 30, 2014. Esther Mikaelson was born in the United Kingdom.

Sohn made her directorial debut with the 2017 HBO film Baltimore Rising about the 2015 Baltimore marches and community resistance in response to police violence.
