Sofia Tarasova (born 31 March 2001) is a Russian and Russian teen singer and actress.

With her song "We Are One," Tarasova represented Ukraine at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2013.

With 121 points, she came in 2nd place in second place. She currently lives in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Early life

Sofia Tarasova was born in Kyiv, Ukraine's capital, on 31 March 2001 to Russian parents from Saint Petersburg. She began to perform vocal at the age of two and a half, whereupon her flawless pitch gained her admission to a group for gifted children at the prestigious Reinhold M. Gliere Music College in her hometown. Tarasova, a 4-year-old girl from Urdudu, passed an examination to join the Academy of Arts' preparatory division, allowing her to study in the fields of music, choreography, and art. In addition, Tarasova performed in leading roles in musicals at age 6. In a 2013 biography, the singer said that "Gerda" in The Snow Queen was a favorite theater role. She entered the "PARADIZ" center at ten, where she took part in voice, choreography, modeling, and acting classes.

Musical career

Tarasova won "Holos.Dity," the children's version of The Voice, in 2012, and the same year, she was nominated to represent Ukraine in the Ukrainian national competition for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2012, although she was not selected to represent the country. Tarasova performed at the Euro Pop Contest for the first time, a singing competition held in Berlin, Germany, with a similar structure to the Eurovision Song Contest.

Tarasova won the VI International Pop Artist Competition "New Wave Junior" in 2013, and the "Eurovision Music Academy" followed her every year. Sofia finished first in a field of 20 candidates on Sunday, with her song "We Are One" winning the right to represent her country. Tarasova's song came in second place with 121 points.

Sofia Tarasova's "Very mne" was released in late April 2014 (Believe me). On May 21, 2014, the music video was released. On the 15th of November, Tarasova was chosen to read the points for Ukraine at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Marsa, Malta.

Tarasova appeared for the second time at the Euro Pop Contest, winning first place in the 10–13 category on December 1, 2014. She had intended to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017, but had to cancel due to personal reasons.

Tarasova, the Russian version of The Voice, decided to participate in season 7 of Golos in October 2018. Whitney Houston performed "I'm Your Baby Tonight," leading off all four coaches to press their "I WANT YOU" button. Tarasova selected Team Konstantin after getting feedback from the coaches. Tarasova competed against Ekaterina Korotkova for their joint cover of "Obiymy" (lit. Okean Elzy's embrace (Embrace) Tarasova won the war, thereby eliminating the knockouts. Tarasova performed "Ty otpusti" during the knockout performance (lit. отусти). You let go by Tina Karol and later qualified for the live shows. Tarasova performed "Amerikanskaya zhena" in the quarterfinals (мериканска ена; lit. Stilyagi (the American wife) was a protagonist of the film Stilyagi. Tarasova has been accepted into the next round for the second time. She sang "We Are the World" by the United States for Africa in the semi-finals. Tarasova was disqualified from the semi-final after encouraging feedback from the coaches.

She began performing under the name SOFA and has released three singles including "сев-осква" (Kiev-Moscow) and "арима" (Charisma). "е ои мен" (Don't hurt me) and the feature song "дуваников оле" (Dandelion Field) were both released shortly after.

Tarasova became a member of Ukrainian pop group VIA Gra on November 6, 2020.
