Simon Wright Career

Career

Wright began his career with Tora Tora, a local band that is not to be confused with the American glam metal band, before joining Manchester band A II Z, a new generation of British heavy metal bands formed in 1979 in Manchester, England, by guitarist Gary Owens. David Owens (vocals), Gary Owens (guitar), Gam Campbell (bass), and Karl Reti (drums) made up the complete line-up. They acquired a local following in Manchester and were signed by Polydor Records, eager to cash in on the burgeoning NWOBHM boom. In 1980, The Witch of Berkley, a single live album, was released. Wright later replaced Reti. The band disintegrated and Wright went on to perform in Tytan and recorded on their debut album Rough Justice; however, the band disbanded shortly before the debut.

Wright, a month shy of turning 20 years old, joined AC/DC after their drummer, Phil Rudd, left in May 1983. Wright responded to an ad that AC/DC had put out in a magazine called Sounds in England, which read: "Rock Drummer Wanted." Don't apply if you don't hit it hard." At the audition, Wright performed three songs. Wright discovered that he had been called two hours after the audition, and he was informed that he had been granted the job. In the mid-90s, AC/DC released three albums with Wright; Fly on the Wall, Who Made Who, and Blow Up Your Video. Wright left the company in November 1989 to join Dio and Chris Slade was promoted to Dio. Wright joined Rhino Bucket when he wasn't working with Dio to replace Liam Jason's departed Liam Jason's for their third album, 1994's independently released Pain. He reunited with the band in 2007 and is featured on their latest album, The Hardest Town.

Wright has worked with Dio in 1990–91 and 1998–2010. He has released four studio albums (Lock up the Wolves, Magica, Killing the Dragon, and Master of the Moon) as well as two live albums (Evil or Divine - Live In New York City).

UFO, Michael Schenker Group, and John Norum's drumming can be heard on albums.

Wright performed on a tribute album to Iron Maiden, a British metal icon. It was his second time on a tribute CD, the first being on an AC/DC tribute album titled Thunderbolt, while in 2013 he appeared on the DIO tribute album "This Is Your Life."

Wright is included in the song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" on the album Butchering the Beatles, a heavy metal tribute.

Wright, John Turner, Phil Soussan, and Carlos Cavazo were all part of the Big Noize initiative in August 2009, performing in Iraq and Kuwait.

After Tate's dismissal from the band, Wright joined Geoff Tate's version of Queensrche, later known as Operation: Mindcrime.

Wright was announced as the drummer of Frontiers Records' Dream Child project in 2018, with Craig Goldy on guitar.

Father-of-two, 52, died after falling off his bike when two cats fighting in the street cut across him and got stuck in his wheels

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 15, 2024
A father-of-two died on his morning commute after two fighting cats cut across his bike and got caught in the wheels, causing him to fall off without wearing a helmet. Chris Reeves, 52, a Network Rail signaller from Rugby, Warwickshire, was airlifted to Walsgrave Hospital (UHCW) in Coventry with a severe brain injury after the accident but he died surrounded by friends and family five days later. His son Dominic Reeves (seen with his father, left, and as a young boy, inset) described the freak accident as being 'unimaginably unfair' and said his father was a 'big, soft friendly giant' who 'deserves the very best'.

Shocking moment drink-driver with children on board loses control of his Audi RS4 and smashes head-on into another car

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 4, 2024
This is the moment a 'selfish' drunk-driver in Wiltshire lost control of his car and careered into oncoming traffic with two children onboard. Simon Wright, from Malmesbury, is seen losing control of his Audi RS4 on dashcam footage from the vehicle he crashed into head-on. The 43-year-old went skidding across the B4042 in his £70,000 motor after overtaking two cars as he exited a roundabout at speed.

What would pigs' wingspan be if they could fly?

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 3, 2024
ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS: Your average market pig weighs about 300 lb (135 kg), while others may reach 900 lb (410 kg). They now fall within the range of the most common flying species, Quetzalcoatlus northropi. This is thought to have ranged from 300 lb to 500 kg (135 kg 225 kg). It had an estimated wingspan of 30 to 35 ft (9 m to 10.5 m). However, Q. northropi was physically different from a pig. It was hollow-boned, stood a little less than a giraffe, and acted like a giant heron. Perhaps a better bet would be to compare our pig to a light plane. Jim Bede, a small, single-seat home-built plane, was built in the Bede BD-5, a late 1960s, a U.S. aircraft designer.
