Early life
Swan was born in West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Scott Swan, her father, is a Canadian theatre producer and actor who runs an acting studio.
Career
She began acting in 1989, a small part in the Ted Danson and Isabella Rossellini film Cousins, when she was just five years old. "So Happi" was one of her early on screen appearances as an adult and appeared in Theory of a Deadman's music video for their single "So Happy," which was released in April 2008. In 2009, she appeared in The Break-Up Artist, her first film role.
Zatanna Zatara appeared on The CW television series Smallville twice (in the season 8 episode "Hex" and season 9 episode "Warrior") from 2009 to 2010. In addition, she appeared in the season six episode of The CW series "You Can't Handle the Truth" in 2010.
Swan starred as Erica Reed in the A&E television series Breakout Kings from 2011 to 2012. Many of the prison scenes were shot in real jails, according to Sherry, although real convicts are also present in jails. On May 17, 2012, the show was cancelled.
In the 2017 Brent Ryan Green film The Veil, Swan portrays Zera. In March 2017, it was announced that Swan would play Medusa in the ABC and Marvel Television series Inhumans. She appeared on the series for a season until it was ended in 2018, when the series was cancelled.
Swan would lead CBC's forthcoming television series Coroner, based on M. R. Hall's Jenny Cooper series of novels. During the first season, the series premiered in January 2019 and attracted one million viewers per episode. It was reported in June 2020 that The CW, Serinda's original home, had picked up the show during the COVID-19 pandemic because of production timeslots being occupied by other shows. On August 5, 2020, the show premiered. During each episode in the first season, it attracted over 600,000 viewers, and as the seasons continued for the network, the number of viewers increased. Season 4 is now airing as of October 2, 2022. The series has lasted for four seasons. No date has been confirmed for season 5 yet. In June 2022, it was confirmed that Swan would be leaving the show and that it could be replaced by a new actor or actress with a new lead role. She was announced in August that she would appear in season 2 of the Amazon Prime Video series Reacher, the television spinoff sequel series to the Jack Reacher films, and that a recurring character role will appear in the series throughout the season, which will premiere in 2023.
