Sergi Canos Career

Club career

Canós, a native of Nules, began his work in the youth sector at Nules, before turning away from Valencia, Villareal, and Atlético Madrid to Barcelona's academy in 2010. Able will play as either a winger or forward, and he left La Masia in 2013.

Canós signed for Premier League club Liverpool at the age of 16 in 2013. He made his international debut in November 2013 during the 2013–14 season before making his U18 debut in August 2014 for the club's reserves. Canós played in every game of Liverpool's 2014-2015 UEFA Youth League campaign, scoring one goal.

Canós joined Brentford on a loan that was later extended until the 2015–16 season on August 31. In a 1–1 draw with Leeds United at Elland Road on September 12, he made his first senior appearance of his career as a late replacement for Philipp Hofmann. On November 21, he made regular substitute appearances and scored his first senior goal of his career against Nottingham Forest, netting within three minutes after being called on for John Swift. Canós came right back to the starting lineup, and the day after extending his loan, he defeated Brentford's Goal of the Season versus Reading on December 28th. He scored four more goals in the second half of the season and ended with seven goals from 39 appearances.

Canós returned to Anfield in time to be included in Jürgen Klopp's squad for the final match of the 2015–16 Premier League season against West Bromwich Albion. In the 1–1 draw, he made what would be his only senior appearance for Liverpool as a late replacement for Sheyi Ojo. Canós left the club on July 12, 2016.

Canós signed a four-year deal with Norwich City in a mystery fee that may have increased to £4.5 million. He was largely out of favour at Carrow Road and appeared mainly in cup competitions, scoring his first goals for the club in a 6–1 EFL Cup second round thrashing of Coventry City on August 23, 2016. Canós scored for the U23 team in a 5–0 EFL Trophy group stage victory over Barnet on October 4th, but the club lost out on league matches and left the team on January 31, 2017 after having only nine appearances in the first half of the 2016–17 season.

Canós resumed Brentford on a 4-plus-year deal, with an option for a further year. The undisclosed fee (which is estimated to be £2,500,000 but rising to £4,500,000) earned him the club's then-record signing. During a 3–3 draw with Brighton and Hove Albion, Canós made his Brentford debut five days later as a 69th-minute replacement for Florian Jozefzoon. In a 5–3 victory over Burton Albion on March 18, he scored his first goals since returning to Griffin Park with a brace. Canós scored four goals in 18 appearances from 18 appearances in the 2016–17 season.

Canós were ruled out of the early matches of the 2017-2018-19 season due to an ankle injury sustained during pre-season. On September 9, 2017, he got off to a promising start against Aston Villa but the 0–0 draw was over in a tense replay of the same injury. In a 3–1 victory over Fulham on 2 December, he made his second appearance of the season as a late replacement in a 3–3 draw with Sunderland on October 21 and scored his first goal of the season on his eighth appearance of the season. Canós was suspended for the first time in his career after receiving a straight red card for a tackle on Derby County's Marcus Olsson on a match on February 3rd. With 31 appearances and three goals, he finished a "frustrating" 2017–18 season.

Canós appeared as a starter in the first half of the 2018–19 season, but he was forced to Emiliano Marcondes in early December 2018. In late-January and early-February 2019, he regained his starting position and came back to form, scoring four goals in as many games. Coach Thomas Frank devoted himself to deploy Canós as a right wing back in a number of games during February 2019, and he ended the 2018-19 season with a career-high 50 appearances and 9 goals.

Canós started the 2019-20 season on the wing as an ever-present starter before suffering a serious knee injury in a match against Nottingham Forest on October 5th. He began a new four-year contract shortly after, with the possibility of a further year. Canós returned to outdoor training in February 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he was unable to make substitute appearances following the season's return to outdoor action. Canós made 15 appearances in the 2019-2020 season, which culminated in their defeat in the 2020 Championship play-off finals. Canós said that the injury was "the best moment of his career" and he made him re-train his mental stability and that top players are playing in top leagues in February 2021. I know how much money it takes."

Canós' 2019–21 season came primarily in a starting role on the left wing due to his unavailability and subsequent resignation on loan of Sad Benrahma. In December 2020 (which included the first hat-trick of his career) in a 3–2 victory over Cardiff City on Boxing Day, he was nominated for the Championship Player of the Month and PFA Fans' Championship Player of the Month awards. Canós finished the 2020–21 season with career bests (55) and goals (9) and won promotion to the Premier League with victory in the 2021 Championship play-off Final.

Canós scored the club's first Premier League goal in a 2–0 win over Arsenal on the first night of the season 2021-2022 season, with a poor driving shot that was later named Team Goal of the Season. Canós was often deployed as a right wing back and occasionally as a forward throughout the season, as well as as a center. Canós made his 35th appearance of the campaign against Leeds United on the final day of the Premier League season one month after coming out with a thigh injury. He appeared in the game as a substitute on 63 minutes and 12 minutes later, he raised the score to 1–1 with his fourth goal of the season, a header. Canós was given his second yellow card two minutes later for a tackle on Raphinha after being chastised for taking his shirt while celebrating. Canós' sending off reduced Brentford to 9 men after Kristoffer Ajer's return from the game injured in the 77th minute and with no replacements available.

Canós missed the start of the regular season after appearing in Brentford's first match of the 2022–23 pre-season. He was announced ready for selection on September 8th, his first appearance of the season as a substitute during the second half of Brighton & Hove Albion's 22-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion on October 14th.

International career

Canós made his international debut at U15 level and was part of the 2012 Copa de México de Naciones team, winning the quarterfinals. During the U17s' disappointing qualification campaign for the 2014 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, he progressed to play at U16 and U17 levels, making six appearances and scoring two goals.

Canós made his U19 debut in a friendly against Italy on January 20th and appeared in two of Spain's three 2016 European U19 Championship qualifying round qualifiers three months later.
