Career

Pertwee attended Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. He toured with the Royal Shakespeare Company for three years after graduating in 1986. He appeared in Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot – The King of Clubs alongside David Suchet (12 March 1989). In the first series of the television show Cadfael in 1994, Hugh Beringar appeared alongside Derek Jacobi. In 1999, he played Brutus in the Hallmark Channel film Cleopatra. With Sadie Frost, Jude Law, Jonny Lee Miller, and Ewan McGregor, he co-owned the Natural Nylon film production firm. In 2003, the firm was founded but not operating. Pertwee is perhaps best known for his portrayal of gruesome death, particularly in the film Dog Soldiers, which culminated in him receiving an award for 'Best Death Face' at Bristol Old Vic.

Doctor Talbot appeared in the 2008 film Doomsday as Doctor Talbot. His voice is often heard in a variety of television commercials, documentaries, and video games, including the medieval empire-building computer game Medieval: Total War and futuristic war games Killzone (as Colonel Gregor Hakha), Killzone 2 (as Colonel Mael Radec) and Fire Warrior (as Governor Severus). He is also the voice behind the Northeast's tourism bill, which debuted at the beginning of 2009. He is the narrator of Masterchef: The Professionals, replacing India Fisher from the fourth series onwards. In the 2010 animated film Ultramarines: a Warhammer 40,000 Movie, he appeared alongside John Hurt as Brother Prosperity. In the film Devil's Playground, a horror film directed by Mark McQueen, he appeared. Danny Dyer, Jaime Murray, Janet Montgomery, and Craig Fairbrass appeared on stage. In October 2010, the film was released. Pertwee appeared in the Nazi zombie film The 4th Reich, which he filmed in 2010, directed by Shaun Smith.

Pertwee has appeared in several dramatic works for BBC Radio 4, including the actor Oliver Reed in Matthew Broughton's play Burning Both Ends.

He appeared in Fox's television series Gotham in 2014, a film that gave an origin to the Batman characters. Alfred Pennyworth, an ex-special forces soldier from London who works as the Wayne family's loyal butler, is depicted in Pertwee's rendition. He becomes the guardian and mentor to the next Batman after Thomas and Martha Wayne's assassination.

Evidently, MasterChef The Professionals has had their fill of dill. In the new season of the BBC One show, the on-trend sauce, which splits a creamier sauce with a dill oil, has appeared multiple times, including twice in the new episode, with mixed results for the young chefs who served it up.
