Life
Berdy, a native of Boca Raton, Florida, was born deaf. He is bilingual; his first language is American Sign Language (ASL) and he speaks English. Berdy was fascinated with magic as an infant. At the World Magicians Festival in Saint Petersburg, he received the top prize for young magicians. When Berdy was 11 years old, he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. With his appearance in The Sandlot 2, his formal acting career began in 2005. He appeared in The Bondage, The Deaf Family, and The Legend of the Mountain Man. Berdy was included in a number of public service advertisements.
Berdy moved to California in 2011 for his role in Switched at Birth, in which he appeared as Emmett Bledsoe's son, Melody Bledsoe, played by Marlee Matlin. He was nominated for the 2011 Teen Choice Awards in the television category for breakout stars. While filming, he attended high school remotely. Berdy produced the on-camera ASL dubbing of Ice Age: Continental Drift. Sam Eliot appeared in Netflix's The Society in 2019.
