Basketball career

Pollard was ranked 19th overall in the 1997 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons, with whom he debuted in the 1997-98 NBA season. He averaged 2.7 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 0.3 assists per game in 33 Pistons games.

Christian Laettner was traded to the Atlanta Hawks, but Pollard never suited up for a game with them and was suspended almost a month later. Pollard was traded to the Sacramento Kings, whose leadership was assisting in the development of a profitable playoff team at the time. During the lockout-shortened 1999 season, he sustained an injury that limited him to only for sixteen games. During his time with the Kings, Vlade Divac was a solid backup center, often starting at power forward when Chris Webber was injured.

Following the 2005-2006 season, Pollard's deal with the Pacers came to an end. Pollard, a Cleveland Cavaliers fan, agreed to a one-year deal on August 18, 2006. Pollard played one minute of game 2 as the Cavaliers lost the 2007 NBA Finals to the San Antonio Spurs, losing four games to none.

Pollard signed a one-year deal with the Boston Celtics on August 9, 2007. Pollard chose #66 as his new uniform number, and jokingly stated that he took it because he would not be allowed to have three 6's. Pollard played little minutes during the season and saw no playing time during the Celtics' championship run in the 2008 NBA Playoffs. He resigned shortly after.
