Early life/ College career

Cuttino, also known as the "Cat," attended Incarnation of Our Lord grade school in Philadelphia's Olney neighborhood. Mobley graduated from grade school and then went to Maine Central Institute in 1992.

He attended the University of Rhode Island from 1993 to 1998, and then redshirted his first year. He volunteered with the Rams team in the 1998 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament and earned a degree in communication studies.

Professional career

The Houston Rockets selected him in the second round (41st overall) of the 1998 NBA draft. Mobley began as a shooting guard, where he and Steve Francis formed one of the NBA's best scoring backcourts. Mobley was with them for six seasons before being fired in 2004.

In the 2004 offseason, Cuttino Mobley, Juwan Howard, Reece Gaines, and Tyronn Lue were all traded to the Orlando Magic, along with Steve Francis and Kelvin Cato for Tracy McGrady, Juwan Howard, Reece Gaines, and Tyronn Lue. With the Magic, he only played 23 games.

Mobley and Doug Christie were traded to the Sacramento Kings along with Michael Bradley for Doug Christie. During the 2004-2005 season, Mobley came in third in the league in three-point percentages.

On July 14, 2005, Mobley agreed to a five-year US$42 million contract with the Clippers. Besides being known for his three-point shooting, he also relied heavily on his post-up game. In addition, he played in the Clutch City shootout competition in Houston during his Rockets days. The Clippers were coached by Mobley, Sam Cassell, and Elton Brand in 2006.

The house in Mobley was burglarized on January 28, 2005. From Mobley's Bel-Air, California home, thieves took $500,000 in cash, jewelry, and other items.

Daniel Smith, Mobley's half-brother, was a wide receiver for the Carolina Panthers in the National Football League. He is also the cousin of former NFL linebacker John Mobley and Michelle Obama's fourth cousin.

On November 21, 2008, Mobley and Tim Thomas were traded to the New York Knicks for Zach Randolph and Mardy Collins. As a member of the Clippers, Mobley averaged 13.9 points per game. This contract was postponed due to the Knicks' physical examination, who discovered he had a heart disease. Since the Knicks were negotiating for salary cap reasons, they decided to close the contract nevertheless. Nonetheless, it was announced on November 28, 2008, that the heart disease "may be career-ending."

In 2017, Mobley was the co-captain of Power in the BIG3; a 3-on-3 theory high-end basketball league starring former NBA players and prospects.

Mobley received the Best Dressed Award at the start of the 2017 season.

When they defeated 3's Company, they were the 2018 BIG3 champions, led by hall-of-famer Nancy Lieberman, Mobley, and his team.

Mobley took over as team captain in 2021, following Corey Maggette's retirement.
