Personal life

Lian is the third of four children in her family of Chinese origins, with both parents being Chinese Malaysians. It is no surprise that she speaks a variety of languages in a multilingual world and moving to another country. Lian, who is fluent in English, also speaks Hokkien, Cantonese, Mandarin, Malay, French, and a smattering of Japanese.

Lian has lived in California, Hong Kong, Vancouver, and Toronto before heading to Kuala Lumpur in 2008.

Lian is a student at Ryerson University with a Bachelor of Design degree in Fashion Communications. She has a fascination with product packaging and typography. Lian is a self-taught web designer and she is often updating and designing her own pages.

Lian, a huge fan of the durian fruit, claims that it was one of the reasons why she returned to Malaysia; another was a lack of appealing employment opportunities. In an interview, Lian said she would return to Canada in March 2011 to seek greater film and television roles.

The UTours, Lian's first show for college students in Canada, was held in 2007. UTours served as a resource for students interested in the Top 20 Universities. University of Victoria, University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University, York University, and The University of Western Ontario were among Lian's schools represented by Lian.

Lian moved to Malaysia in 2008 and began collaborating closely with Media Prima's online portal Randommania for their event-based show Randommania. www.my.com/ergono1.com

Lian was given the opportunity to interview many celebrities from local celebrity Maya Karin, Fasha Sandha, and Ning Baizura to international artists like Shayne Ward, The D.E.Y. Machi and Machi.

Lian's fame as a result of her close association with GuaTV grew to a well-known celebrity in the media industry, as well as making her one of Gua's Homegrown Hotties!

She also served as the host and writer for Ntv7's informative program NUVO-where the famous Taiwanese boy band Fahrenheit stayed down to Kuala Lumpur to collaborate on Canon IXUS sponsorship.

The Ultimate Prom Nite (Season 2), a Malaysian reality TV series made by Primeworks Studios in collaboration with skincare company Nivea, premiered in October 2008. Lian co-hosted the program with Hansen Lee. The inter-campus prom night was held to attract students from various colleges and universities around Malaysia who were deemed "Ultimate Prom King and Queen" by the Malaysians. Lian spent the next year on 8TV's first-online reality show Simply Fabulous by Maybelline, which was seen on 23 webisodes and its final broadcast on television.

In early 2010, Lian hosted "Ask Ting Ting Ting" for visitors visiting Hong Kong's city. She returned to Kuala Lumpur in September 2010 to join ESPN's sports news program MyEG Xtra Time with co-hosts Marion Caunter, Cheryl Samad, and Lisa Surihani. Lian has been hosting Astro Hitz Radar, an hour-long talk show on music channel Astro hitz. The program includes upcoming movie trailers, discusses fashion, highlights events around town, and showcases exclusive live performances from local artists.

Lian's first regional program Photo Face-Off on History Channel Asia began in 2015, expanding beyond Malaysia to Singapore, including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

Career in Acting

Lian has been acting since the age of 10. She made her professional debut in Vancouver's production of Sex in August 2003, which had many plays and performances under her belt from community performances. Serin Ngai and Kathy Hsieh's Sex in Vancouver was an adapted version of Sex in Seattle. Elizabeth was one of four main characters in this Asian-centric film.

Selena, the enigmatic character in 2016, makes her debut on MediaCorp's 13-episode drama in Singapore. Tay Ping Hui and Carmen Soo are two of Tay Ping Hui and Carmen Soo's other co-stars. Lian appears in her first Mandarin-speaking role in Astro's 6-part mini series Anak Merdeka chronicling a tale of three friends through the decades of Malaysia's Independence.
