Sara Seegar (July 1, 1914 – August 12, 1990) was an American actress.
She will be best known for her role as Mrs. Wilson in Dennis the Menace's 1962-1963 season as a performer on stage, film, radio, and television.
Early life
Seegar was born in Greentown, Indiana, to Frank and Carrie (née Wall) Seegar, the youngest of five children. She was educated in London and Paris but later graduated from Hollywood High School, where she appeared in dramatic and musical performances. She earned a degree in drama from Los Angeles Junior College, where she appeared in stage productions.
Dr. Helen Seegar Stone (1895–1976), an educator; Dorothy Seegar (1905–1913), and Miriam Seegar (1907–2011), both an actor. Seegar appeared on stage in London after school, beginning with Three Men on a Horse. She continued to perform in London until the start of World War II, at which time she returned to the United States.
Personal life
Sara Seegar met Ezra Stone while the two were on Broadway performing in Horse Fever in 1940. They were married on October 5, 1942. Josef Seegar Stone (1944–2010) and Francine Lida Stone, the couple's youngest child.
Career
Seegar appeared in Broadway plays, on film, on radio, and television, beginning in 1940. 908-909 appeared on Room for One More in the 1950s and 1960s and appeared as a character actor on television in the 1950s and 1960s, with roles on Suspense, Perry Mason, and The Donna Reed Show. She appeared on Bewitched in a number of small roles throughout the course of the same film.
Seegar played Eloise Wilson, the wife of John Wilson, during Dennis the Menace's 1962-63 series. She effectively replaced Sylvia Field, who portrayed Martha Wilson, as the original "Mrs. Wilson" from 1959 to 1962. Due to George and Martha Wilson's being left out of the game, Field left the story after Joseph Kearns' death (George Wilson). After Kearns' death, Gale Gordon began playing John Wilson, George Wilson, George's brother. She appeared on "The Music Man" in the film version with Robert Preston and Shirley Jones.
