Sandra Gal (born 9 May 1985) is a German professional golfer who plays on the LPGA Tour based in the United States.
Childhood, college and amateur career
Gal began playing golf at the age of five in Düsseldorf, Germany. She began her career at the age of 17 and took the German National Girls Championship at the age of 18. She graduated from high school in 2004.
Gal attended college at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, while still competing on the German National Team. She competed for the Florida Gators women's golf team from 2005 to 2007, winning four events in NCAA competition, earned First Team All-American recognition in 2007, and was an NGCA Academic All-American from 2005 to 2008.
She won the Ladies European Amateur in 2007 and later that fall, she qualified for the LPGA Qualifying Tournament, where she turned pro. Despite the fact that she could no longer play collegiate golf, she met her degree requirements while playing full time on the LPGA Tour and graduated with honors from Florida in August 2008 with a bachelor's degree in advertising.
Professional career
Gal qualified for 14th in the 2007 LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament to receive full playing rights on the LPGA; she turned pro immediately following the tournament.
Gal won her first event at the Kia Classic in late March in her fourth season on the LPGA Tour. She finished the 72-hole tournament under par at 16 under par, just one stroke behind runner-up Jiyai Shin. She made two career-low rounds of 64, the same as 2009.
Gal was a member of the winning European Solheim Cup team in 2011 and later competed on the European Solheim Cup team in 2015.
Gal in 2016 competed in the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she came in third place at T25.
