Samuel Joshua "Sam" Watters (born July 23, 1970) is an American singer, songwriter, record producer and record executive.

Watters was a member of the multi-platinum selling 1990s R&B group Color Me Badd and co-authored many of their hits including “I Adore Mi Amor”, and “All 4 Love”.

Watters has also written and produced songs for Grammy-winning and nominated artists such as American Idol winners Fantasia, Kelly Clarkson and Jordin Sparks, and other superstars such as Céline Dion, Whitney Houston, Leona Lewis, and Anastacia.

Watters is a member of the production/songwriting team The Runaways including fellow hitmakers Rico Love, Wayne Wilkins, Ryan Tedder, and Louis Biancaniello.

Music career

Watters formed Colour Me Badd in high school, along with fellow members Mark Calderon, Kevin Thornton, and Bryan Abrams. The group was soon discovered by Robert "Kool" Bell of Kool and the Gang fame after its formation. Bell introduced them to his leadership team and the company was soon signed to Giant Records in 1990.

Watters and Color Me Badd have sold 8.8 million albums over their careers, with three of them as top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including three number one "I Wanna Sex You Up" (No. 10)). 1 Billboard R&B and No. I Adore Mi Amor" and "All 4 Love" are two Billboard Hot 100) and "All 4 Love" are among the many favorites. In 1998, Color Me Badd disbanded, and Watters continued to pursue a career in songwriting and production.

Watters was introduced by record producer and songwriter Louis Biancaniello in 1996 while onboard on Color Me Badd's third album Now and Forever. Watters and Biancaniello met soon as production partners and have been writing and recording together ever since.

Jessica Simpson and the others wrote and produced "I Wanna Love You Forever," which was first released in September 1999. Simpson's first top ten hit, which reached No. 59, was the platinum single, which was the first to reach No. ten. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The partners co-wrote and produced "I'm Outta Love" from Anastacia's debut single "I'm Outta Love," which went on to platinum and multiplatinum success in ten countries in February 1999. The single, which was ranked in ten countries, was a hit around the world, ranking fifth in ten countries.

Watters co-wrote (with Biancaniello) and sang background vocals on "What About Love" by Spanish singer Mónica Naranjo in 2001.

Watters and Biancaniello co-wrote another song with Anastacia, "One Day in Your Life," which was released in March 2002. In eight other nations, the top ten single charted were ranked. Celine Dion's multi-platinum album A New Day Has Come was also released in March 2002. Watters and Biancaniello co-wrote the song "I Surrender" on the album that debuted at No. 109. In over 20 countries, 1 out of every 20 countries. The album has now sold 12 million copies around the world.

Watters and Biancaniello co-wrote "I Believe" by Watters' wife and fellow American Idol contestant Tamyra Gray, which was released by American Idol Season 3 winner Fantasia in June 2004. The song debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at the top of the chart. For 2005, the single went platinum and received the Billboard Top Selling R&B/Hip-Hop Single of the Year as well as the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Single of the Year.

Watters, alongside Biancaniello, Wayne Wilkins, Rico Love, and Ryan Tedder formed the production/songwriting team The Runaways in 2007. Natasha Bedingfield's "Love Like This" and Keri Hilson's "Energy" were two of the team's hits.

Watters and Biancaniello wrote and produced another hit song for Fantasia, "When I See You," which lasted 8 weeks at No. 1 in April 2007. Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart ranks 1 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart. It became the No. 1 in the United States. The 8 songs of the decade were on the radio and were nominated for two Grammy Awards (Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song).

Leona Lewis' 2007 debut album, Spirit, which has sold 7 million units around the world, the Watters and Biancaniello duo also worked on Leona Lewis' debut album, Spirit, which also appeared on YouTube. "Yesterday" and "Take a Bow" were co-wrote and co-produced by the pair, who also created "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face."

Watters and Biancaniello produced three songs on Kelly Clarkson's debut album "All I Ever Wanted" ("The Day We Fell Apart" and "All I Ever Wanted" on the title track. They also released "I Want You," their fourth album. The album, which has sold over 900,000 copies in the United States, debuted at No. 1 and debuted at No. 900,000. On the Billboard 200 album chart, number 1 has been nominated for a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album.

Jordin Sparks, a former American Idol champion, first released the single "Battlefield" in May 2009. Watters co-wrote and co-produced the album that debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100's top ten. Outside of the United States, it ranked fifth in Canada and ranked ten in Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand, as well as the top twenty in the United Kingdom. Watters assisted the platinum singer in achieving her third top ten Billboard Hot 100 single with this album.

Watters' "Forever Is Over" (a No. ), a multi-platinum British girl group, had a huge success in Asia. On the UK Singles Chart, there are two singles. Watters co-writing and co-producing the album, as well as Biancaniello and others, when it was released in October 2009.

Watters followed the success he had with the multi-million-selling Irish pop group Westlife in November 2009. Where We Are was co-produced and co-written by Watters on Westlife's album Where We Are. The album received double platinum in the United Kingdom, triple platinum in Ireland, and gold in New Zealand and Sweden.

Watters served as Vice President of Island Records from 2014 to 2016, where he worked on artists including Shawn Mendes, Iggy Azalea, Keke Palmer, and Luke James.

Watters took over Island's inability in 2016 after being nominated for four Grammy Awards in 2020. Bobi Andonov is also managed by Watters.
