Sam Retford (born 22 June 1999) is an Australian-English actor best known for playing Cory Wilson on Channel 4's Ackley Bridge.

Early life

Retford was born in Gosford, New South Wales, Australia, on June 22, 1999. His family and relatives were then relocated to Crewe, England. He attended Brine Leas High School and later studied acting at The Lowry Actors Company. Retford aspired to be a marine biologist before starting his career as a marine biologist.

Career

Retford's early performances, including Lord of the Flies and The Newspaper Boy, began in fringe performances around Manchester. In Hollyoaks, Retford made his television debut in Tom's Life, a Hollyoaks spinoff series. On All 4 in 2014, Nate's role was introduced, and he portrayed the role for four episodes. He portrayed Cory Wilson in the Channel 4 school drama Ackley Bridge from 2017 to 2019. His storylines in the series revolved around domestic violence, coming to terms with his sexuality, and having an illicit friendship with a teacher.

In August 2018, he costarred in the musical Closets alongside Lloyd Daniels. Retford made his London debut in February 2019 as Michael in Kings of Idle Land at the VAULTS festival. Retford was at Diana Award anti-bullying concerts in Blackpool and London later this year. In an episode of the BBC medical drama Casualty, he played Tyler Begbie in December 2019. Retford appeared in the short film S.A.M. in 2020. It was revealed later this year that he would appear in the tenth series of Death in Paradise. Curtis Delamere appeared on the cast of the ITV soap opera Coronation Street in May 2021. He appeared in the musical film White Wedding as Hunter later this year.
