Since 2010 he has fought 88 times in 15 countries and is perhaps the most active international fighter. He is known for his excellent head movement, defensive footwork, unconventional kicks, and jumping attacks. His speed, athleticism, and the large variety in his unorthodox arsenal made him an exceptionally difficult opponent to prepare for. He retired from serious competition in Thailand in 2014 and now solely competes in showcase fights around the world against foreign, usually bigger opponents. Upon retiring from competition on the Thai circuit he was still able to make 130 pounds, with his final fight being forced to make 129 pounds.
Since 2014, Saenchai has frequently competed at the Thai Fight promotion, a Thailand-based promotion. Early career
Saenchai began learning Muay Thai when he was 8 years old. When his friend's elder brother was awarded a prize after a fight, he decided to start learning Muay Thai in Jocky gym. He debuted after just a week of training, and he took his first fight by default of 30 Baht ($1).
He started fighting in Bangkok when he was 14 years old and then moved to Somluck Kamsing's Kamsing gym. A transfer fee was charged to Kamsing in 300,000 Baht. Saenchai Sor.Khamsing ( ) is the reason why Saenchai's ring name was chosen ().
Saenchai claimed the Lumpinee stadium championship at age 16 in 1997. When he was 18, he captured the Lumpinee stadium championship at bantamweight.
Saenchai converted to boxing in 2002. At featherweight, he debuted as "Suphachai Saenpong." On November 27, 2003, he defeated Rud 4K Kevkatchewon of the Philippines to challenge for the vacant interim title of PABA, and he prevailed by unanimous decision. He retained his PABA title against Rud in January 2004.
He returned to Muay Thai in 2004.
Saenchai went to Japan twice to combat, and Khamsing accepted those dates, but Khamsing disagreed the third time. Despite Khamsing's attempts to prevent Saenchai from travelling to Japan, Khamsing went to Japan with some Muay Thai fighters from another gym. Khamsing broke off contact with Saenchai as a result of the incident, and Saenchai travelled to Kingstar Gym. Khamsing's transfer fee was 300,000 Baht from Kingstar gym at this moment. Saenchai fought against Sang-Soo Lim from Korea in Japan on July 3, 2006. Saenchai had intended to fight Shinya Ishige but was forced to withdraw two weeks earlier because of an injury during preparation. Lim was 21 cm taller and 10 kilograms heavier than Saenchai, but Saenchai beat Lim at 2R with a right hook.
Saenchai took on two Muay Thai fighters in a single bout at Lumpinee stadium on July 3, 2009. He fought against Petchboonchu FA Group in the 1 to 3 rounds. Petchboonchu threatened aggressively at 1R, but Saenchai stayed faithful to his stamina-saving technique and shattered Petchboonchu's balance several times. Saenchai fought against Sagetdao Petpayathai from 4 to 5 rounds. Saenchai maintained his critical distance with front-kicks and middle-kicks, and he threw telling blows more often than Sakeddaow did. With a unanimous decision after 5R, the referee announced Saenchai's victory.
Saenchai defeated Tetsuya Yamato from Japan on March 14, 2010 in Los Angeles to face the empty world lightweight title sanctioned by Muay Thai Association of America (MTAA). Saenchai defeated Yamato with a left high kick at 1R and claimed the MTAA title.
Saenchai was first signed by Yokkao's founder, Philip Villa, as a sponsored fighter of the Yokkao Fight Team in 2011. Saenchai was one of the original owners of the Muay Thai Combat Fan Expo in Rimini, Italy, with Buakaw Banchamee, Sudsakorn Sor Klinmee, Dzhabar Askerov, and several others.
