Hameed Akhtar, a writer and columnist, was born in Lahore, Pakistan. She attended Lahore College for Women University. Three sisters and one brother are among her siblings.

Saba Hameed was previously married to Syed Pervay Shafi, with whom she had two children, daughter, actress, and singer Meesha Shafi, and son Faris Shafi. She is currently married to actor Waseem Abbas.
