Ruth Connell (born 20 April 1979) is a Scottish theatre, television, and film actress and producer.

She is also a former professional dancer and choreographer.

Connell is best known for her appearance in the CW series Supernatural as Rowena.

In the 2013 Broadway World Los Angeles Awards for her portrayal of Mrs Darling and Captain Hook at the Blank Theatre, Los Angeles' award-winning production of Peter Pan: The Boy Who Hatched Mothers, she was nominated as "Best Leading Actress" for her role.

Early life

Fiona Murray, a born in Falkirk and raised outside Bonnybridge, was the only child of football manager and coach David Connell and teacher Fiona Murray. Connell was sent to dance lessons at an early age to protect her cousin company; she kept promise and was accepted into the Scottish Ballet Vocational Dance Education Scheme. Clara, the lead role in Scotland's Nutcracker, appeared in several youth performances, including the leading role. As a child, she competed for Scottish Junior Ballet Champion and Scottish Senior Ballet champion at Stage Festivals in Scotland.

Connell attended The Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama in London, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Acting after working as a professional dancer with companies The Curve Foundation, Jazz Art UK, and with Leah Stein at Dancebase Edinburgh. The adjudicator from The Stage newspaper selected her for her graduation showcase as the "Critics Choice" for her graduation show. She played Grusha in Bertolt Brecht's The Caucasian Chalk Circle, which toured for The Palace Theatre, Watford, in 2004, after leaving drama college.

Connell performed in Glasgow in 2005 as part of the Oxford Stage Company's revival of Men Should Weep in the role of Isa. Gretchen and Helen of Troy, both lead female roles at Edinburgh's Royal Lyceum Theatre, in 2006. The performance was nominated for the CATS Critics Awards for theatre in Scotland. Connell performed ballroom dancer Lily at the Citizens Theater in 2007, and in 2008, Connell performed the dual roles of Mrs. Beaver/Mrs. At The Royal Lyceum Edinburgh, Mcready is looking forward to glowing reviews. In 2009, Connell was featured as a series regular in the ITV sitcom pilot Above Their Stations, which also starred Denis Lawson, Ashley Madekwe, Andrew Brooke, and Simon Dudley, which was seen on BBC Three. Connell has also been credited with directing A Midsummer Night's Dream and Hansel and Gretel at the Avenue Theatre Company in Greenwich during this time, as well as the short film Sapphire Strange and Jane.

Connell has played lead roles in the award-winning independent film Folklore, as well as in the film The Cursed Man, based on Keith Rommel's cult novel, and Hara Kiri, a punk-infused love tale about two street skaters starring Aitch Alberto. Merida appeared in the video game Disney Infinity 3.0. She appeared in the Sofia the First episode "The Secret Library" for the first time. Since 2014, Connell has starred Rowena, mother of demon Crowley (Mark A. Sheppard), in the popular TV series Supernatural, beginning in season 10 and ending, and is one of the longest running female characters on the program.
