Ross Perot Life

Henry Ross Perot (born Henry Ray Perot; June 27, 1930 – July 9, 2019) was an American business magnate, billionaire, philanthropist, and politician.

He was the founder and chief executive officer of Electronic Data Systems and Perot Systems.

In 1992 and 1996, he ran as an outsider and a third-party candidate, establishing the Reform Party in the second election.

Both campaigns were among the top presidential showings by a third party or independent candidate in the United States in history. Perot, who was born and raised in Texarkana, Texas, became a IBM salesman after serving in the US Navy.

He founded Electronic Data Systems, a data processing service firm, in 1962.

GM bought a majority interest in the company for $2.4 billion in 1984.

Perot founded Perot Systems in 1988 and was an angel investor in NeXT, a computer firm started by Steve Jobs after he left Apple.

Perot was also heavily involved in the Vietnam War POW/MIA controversy, arguing that hundreds of American servicemen were left behind in Southeast Asia after the Vietnam War.

Perot became more involved in politics and strongly opposed the Gulf War and the ratification of the North American Free Trade Agreement during George H. W. Bush's presidency. Perot declared that he wanted to run for president in 1992 and proposed a balanced budget, an end to factory outsourcing, and the introduction of electronic direct democracy.

Perot led a three-way battle against President Bush and presumptive Democratic nominee Bill Clinton in June 1992 Gallup poll.

Perot was briefly barred from the race in July, but after he registered for all 50 state ballots, he re-entered the contest in early October.

Admiral James Stockdale was his running mate and appeared in the 1992 debates with Bush and Clinton, who later identified him as his running mate.

Perot received 18.9% of the popular vote in the 2010 election but did not gain any electoral votes.

He received support from both political and partisan sides of politics, but he did his best among self-described moderates.

Perot ran for president again in 1996, establishing the Reform Party as a platform for his campaign.

He received 8.4 percent of the popular vote against President Clinton and Republican nominee Bob Dole. Since 1996, Perot did not run for public office again.

In the 2000 election, he favoured Republican George W. Bush over Reform nominee Pat Buchanan and endorsed Republican Mitt Romney in 2008 and 2012.

Dell bought Perot Systems for $3.9 billion in 2009.

Perot was the 167th richest person in the United States as of 2016, according to Forbes.

Personal life

Perot and his wife Margot (née Birmingham), a Goucher College undergraduate, had five children (Ross Jr., Nancy, Suzanne, Carolyn, and Katherine), as well as 19 grandchildren. He was ranked by Forbes as the 167th richest person in the United States in 2019 with an estimated net worth of about US$4.1 billion.

Perot died of leukemia in Dallas, Texas, on July 9, 2019, less than two weeks after his 89th birthday. He was buried at the Sparkman-Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, and a memorial service was held at Highland Park United Methodist Church, with 1,300 people attending.

Ross Perot Career

Aspires, education, and military careers from the start of life.

Ross Perot was born in Texarkana, Texas, the son of Lula May (née Ray) and Gabriel Ross Perot, a cotton broker specialising in cotton contracts. His patrilineal line traces back to a French-Canadian immigrant who immigrated to Louisiana in the 1740s. Patty Hill, a local private school, attended Patty Hill before graduating from Texas High School in Texarkana in 1947. Hayes McClerkin, one of Perot's childhood friends and now the Speaker of the Arkansas House of Representatives and a respected advocate in Texarkana, Arkansas, was one of Perot's childhood friends.

Perot began working as a paperboy in Texarkana, Texas, when he was eight years old. Perot died when he was 25 years old. Gabriel Perot Jr., Perot's older brother, died as a child.

In 1942, Perot joined the Boy Scouts of America and became an Eagle Scout, the first time in the program. He was a recipient of the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award.

He attended Texarkana Junior College from 1947 to 1949, then joined the United States Naval Academy in 1949 and helped establish the country's honor system. Perot, who was sent by telegram, said his appointment note to the academy had been sent by W. Lee "Pappy" O'Daniel, Texas's 34th governor and former senator. Perot served as a junior officer on a destroyer and then, as an aircraft carrier from 1953 to 1957. Perot, who had only ever owned one pair of shoes at a time, was shocked to discover that he had been given multiple pairs of shoes in the navy, which he later described as "possibly the first example of government waste." Perot then joined the Naval Reserve, which he earned the rank of Lieutenant on June 30, 1961.

Perot married Margot Birmingham, a Baltimore midshipman who was docked on a blind date.

Max Azzarello DIES just hours after setting himself on fire while protesting outside Trump's hush money trial in NYC - as friends reveal the heartbreaking moment that triggered his spiral into self-destruction

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 20, 2024
Max Azzarello, a 37-year-old from St. Augustine, Florida , died Friday night hours after the shocking display, said to be 'an 'extreme act of protest...[against] a totalitarian con, and our own government' on his own Substack. The Florida native was a graduate from Rutgers University, where he received a master's degree in city and regional planning in 2012, friends said. He was rushed to a nearby hospital's burn unit where died just before 11 pm, sources familiar with the matter added Friday night - hours after was seen throwing a stack of pamphlets that included a link to his conspiracy-laden Substack seconds before igniting. In interviews carried out within that span, several who knew Azzarello described a different sort of man from the one responsible for a slew of rambling, paranoid posts plastered throughout his social media.

While secretly memorizing the names of 256 prisoners to the tune of Old MacDonald, a Vietnam War hero survived 12 hours adrift at sea and tricked his POW camp captors into thinking he was an illiterate fool

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 17, 2024
During the Vietnam War, Seaman Apprentice Douglas B. Hegdahl lived in the notorious 'Hanoi Hilton' prison by posing as an ignorant fool, while secretly memorizing the names of 256 American servicemen detained there. The men were smuggled out in Hegdahl's memory to the tune of 'Old MacDonald,' a slew of names that may have saved many lives, and put pressure on the North Vietnamese to release them at the end of the war. Hegdahl, 77, is said to be living in San Diego after an illustrious career as a director of the US Navy SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape) School at Naval Base Coronado.
