Rosey Life

Matthew Tapunu Anoa?i (April 7, 1970 – April 17, 2017) was a professional wrestler best known for his time on the circuit under various ring identities and his time in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), where he competed as Rosey. Anoa'i was a member of the Anoo family, a prominent Samoan wrestling family.

Anoa'i and his late cousins Eddie Fatu and Matt Fatu were trained at the Wild Samoan Training Facility run by his uncle, Afa Anoa?i.

He competed in Afa's World Xtreme Wrestling (WXW) promotion after his preparations.

He began competing in tag team competition with Samu as the Samoan Gangsta Party.

(ECW): The team served in Extreme Championship Wrestling for a brief period of time.

Anoa?i competed in various independent competitions and international competitions, including World Wrestling Council and Frontier Martial Arts Wrestling, winning various tag team championships throughout the 1990s.

Anoa?i joined the WWE in 2001 and was sent to the Heartland Wrestling Association (HWA) in Cincinnati, Ohio.

While residing in HWA, he was spotted in tag team competition alongside Fatu, and the pair won the HWA Tag Team Championships. Anoa?i and Fatu were called up to the Raw roster after signing with WWE in 2002.

They were used as enforcers for then-General Manager Eric Bischoff, who was also known as 3-Minute Warning.

Anoa?i was "discovered" by The Hurricane in 2003, and the two teams, Rosey and The Hurricane, competed together as a unit from there.

They won the World Tag Team Championship after two years of teaming, but they were disbanded soon after losing the championship.

In March 2006, Anoa?i was fired from his WWE contract. Anoa?i continued wrestling after his time with WWE, including All Japan Pro Wrestling, Great Championship Wrestling, BAW Championship Wrestling, Appalachian Wrestling Federation, and Ohio Valley Wrestling.

Anoa?i was a featured contestant on the reality television show Fat March and ran a restaurant, aside from professional wrestling.

Early life

Anoaz is a member of the Anoa's family. He is the son of former Samoan professional wrestler Sika Anoai, who competed as one half of the Wild Samoans. Joe Anoayi, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets' starting defensive tackle, is now a licensed wrestler who works for the WWE under the name Roman Reigns. In 2007, Anoo (his father Sika and his uncle Afa) were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Rikishi, Tonga Kid, Yokozuna, Akane, and Umaga are among Rikishi's cousins.

Anoai played football with Emmitt Smith at Escambia High School in Pensacola, Florida, growing up. He aspired to play in the National Football League and played college football for Hawaii. He performed at various nightclubs in New Orleans before deciding to train as a professional wrestler.

Personal life and death

Anoa's was half-Samoan and half-Italian. Sika Anoai, a professional wrestler, was the father of Anoa's father. He was Joe Anoai's brother, who became popular in the WWE as Roman Reigns. Amanda Vandeberg Schall, the ex-wife of UFC fighter Kerry Schall, hails from Mason, Ohio. Jordan Iles and Koa Rodney Anoa's sons, as well as daughter Madison Alani Anoa'i, were together on a twosome.

Anoob's was hospitalized in January 2014 due to congestive heart disease (with which he had been diagnosed years before) and atrial fibrillation. Anoai's CHF was directly related to weight gain as he attempted to recover from a chronic knee injury that also caused hip pains. He died in Pensacola, Florida, ten days after his 47th birthday, owing to complications relating to congestive heart disease.

Rosey Career

Professional wrestling career

Anoai spent his childhood Eddie Fatu at the Wild Samoan professional wrestling school run by members of their family's extended family. When their training was complete, they debuted in their uncle Afa's World Xtreme Wrestling (WXW) promotion. In Puerto Rico, one of his first matches was for the World Wrestling Council (WWC) promotion. He appeared in two matches for the promotion in November 1995 and was named "Kuhio." On November 24, he first faced Pulgarcito for the WWC Television Championship, then met future WWC Television Champion Jim Steele on November 25 but lost both. Mack Daddy Kane emerged as the Samoan Gangsta Party's founder, who later began collaborating with Samu. Anoa'i won his first title when he and Samu won the vacant IWCCW Tag Team Championship in a tournament on December 26, 1995, and the champions would be the last champions until the competition ended. They spent a brief time in ECW in 1996, including The Gangstas, as well as the Eliminators and the Bruise Brothers, all fighting for various tag teams, including The Gangstas. They made their debut at Hardcore Heaven on June 22, 1996, defeating Axl Rotten and Hack Meyers, which resulted in a No Contest. They returned on July 12 to a no contest with Big Dick Dudley and Buh Buh Ray Dudley. They lost to The Gangstas on the following night at Heat Wave. The Doctor Is In, Anoa'i and Samu competed in a four-way ECW World Tag Team Championship against The Eliminators, The Gangstas, and The Bruise Brothers, which were crowned by The Gangstas on August 3. The Samoan Gangsta Party continued to shoot at the Tag Team Championship from August to October, but they were never able to win them. Anoa's was supposed to face The Sandman on September 20, but fell short.

He returned to WXW in 1997, where Anoa's brother L.A. competed in the WXW Tag Team Championship as one half of the Samoan Gangstas. Smooth has been used on two occasions. On May 24, they defeated Love Connection to begin their first title reign, and the Mad Russian and the Russian Eliminator continued their second series on September 17. He played in the WWC in Puerto Rico in 1997, winning the WWC World Tag Team Championship with Tahiti as The Islanders defeated Le Ley and Ricky Santana on June 22. They dominated the games for two months before losing them to The Youngbloods by forfeit on August 16. Anoa'i and Smooth won the vacant NWL Tag Team Championship by defeating the Grungers on December 12, 1997. They remained unoccupied for three months until they were unfilled in March 1998.

He travelled to Japan in March 1999 to compete for Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling (FMW). He began his as "Armageddon," alongside Fatu, as Armageddon I and Anao'i. He debuted on March 20, 1999, when he appeared with Fatu and Ricky Fuji in a losing effort to Hideki Hosaka, Hisakatsu Oya, and Super Leather. Anoa's had been involved in a round robin tournament for the FMW Brass Knuckles Tag Team Championship, but only secured 2 points after scoring one-on-one victories over Hosaka and Fuji. Anoa's 1999 joined Fatu and Super Leather in a round robin tournament for the WEW 6-Man Tag Team Championship, but we missed the semifinals after losing a decision match to Hayabusa, Masato Tanaka, and Tetsuhiro Kuroda. Anoa'i and Fatu would stop wearing Armageddon's gimmick and enter the sport as "The Samoans" in May 2000, with Anoa'i naming him Matty Samu and Fatu turning his name to Eddie Fatu while Fatu became Eddie Fatu. The FMW Hardcore Tag Team Championship was won by Anoa'i and Fatu on June 21, defeating Hosaka and Yoshinori Sasaki. The two will hold the titles for a month and two strong title defenses before returning the titles to Hosaka and Sasaki on July 28.

Anoai and Fatu have both signed developmental contracts with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), and the Heartland Wrestling Association (HWA) has been assigned to Anoa's team, The Island Boyz, with Anoazi using the ring name Kimo. They won the HWA Tag Team Championship in November 2001 by defeating Evan Karagias and Shannon Moore. They also competed for Memphis Championship Wrestling (MCW), winning the MCW Southern Tag Team Championship on three occasions.

Kimo (renamed Rosey) and Fatu (renamed Jamal) made their WWE debut on July 22, 2002, as 3-Minute Warning, a pair of villainous savages. Rosey Grier, an American football player, inspired the name Rosey. Eric Bischoff's henchmen were "hired" as Eric Bischoff's wretchners, attacking random wrestlers each week, until Bischoff either gave people three minutes to entertain him before they were assaulted or decided that three minutes of a segment was sufficient before the team decided that ending it was over. Several wrestlers were assaulted under Bischoff's orders, including D'Lo Brown and Shawn Stasiak. They also attacked non-wrestlers, such as Ring announcer Lilian Garcia and retired wrestler Jimmy Snuka, Mae Young, and The Fabulous Moolah. Anoag later referred to two lesbians as his favorite 3-Minute Warning run-in.

Three-Minute Warnings began a feud with Billy and Chuck, who were participating in their storyline dedication ceremony and losing them at the Unforgiven pay-per-view festival. During this period, Rico, Billy and Chuck's former boss, also started to handle 3-Minute Warning. They competed regularly in Raw's tag team division until June 2003, when Jamal was released from his WWE contract.

The Hurricane "discovered" Rosey's potential as a hero and christened him as "Rosey, the Super Hero in Training" later in 2003 (the S.H.I.T.). Rosey was involved in numerous sketches involving him as a hero, including helping an elderly lady get across the street and trying to get changed into his superhero costume in a phone box. During this period, Rosey and The Hurricane fought against teams including Chris Jericho and Evolution. On the July 19, 2004, episode of Raw, Rosey, Rosey appear in a new costume, seemingly upgrading him to a complete superhero, effectively turning him into a fan favorite.

Rosey and Hurricane defeated La Résistance in the finals of a Tag Team Turmoil tournament on May 1, 2005, defeating the World Tag Team Championship. They were joined for a brief period by WWE Diva Stacy Keibler, who they described as Super Stacy. Nevertheless, Stacy was then drafted to the SmackDown! Brand. During Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch's debut match on Raw, Rosey and the Hurricane were defeated by the Hurricane on September 5, 2005. At Unforgiven, the pair received a tag team championship shot. Murdoch delivered an elevated DDT on The Hurricane during the championship match, which was visible from the outside. The DDT caused Hurricane to suffer a "stinger" and allowed Cade and Murdoch to defeat the injured Hurricane later in the season, giving them the World Tag Team Championships to him and Rosey.

The team's losing streak was eventually brought to an end as a result of Hurricane's injuries. Kurt Angle smuggered Hurricane Eugene McMahon on the request of WWE Chairman Vince McMahon on October 17, 2005. Hurricane ripped off his mask and stung Rosey after the beating video was broadcast (who had come to the ring for his assistance). Hurricane did not turn up for a World Tag Team Championship match this week, leaving Rosey to face the champions, Cade and Murdoch alone. The Hurricane (out of costume) appeared at the top of the entrance ramp during the game, now named Gregory Helms as he watched Rosey be double teamed and defeated. Helms admitted that he was sick of being silly for the crowd and that he had been carrying Rosey as a tag team member after the game. Helms defeated Rosey in their first match since teaming up on November 7, 2005.

Jamal was recalled by WWE, and he and Rosey were supposed to reunite 3-Minute Warning just weeks after all the chaos. At a dark match before the January 9, 2006 episode of Raw, the pair competed as a tag team. However, Rosey was barred from his WWE contract on March 21, 2006, and the apprehension of 3-Minute Warning never made it to television.

In 2006, Anoagu began competing for All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW), referring to the name RO-Z. On June 25, 2006, he made his first appearance on the Crossover Tour as part of RO&D, where he joined Taiyo Kea in a triumphant effort over Arashi and Satoshi Kojima, with Anoa'i scoring the victory over Arashi. Anoa's two months ago, they betrayed RO&D and defected to the Voodo Murders. Anoa'i and "brother" Yasshi teamed up against Taka Michinoku, Taiyo Brown, D-Lo Brown, and Buchanan in a "losing team must disband" match in which Anoa's Kea pinned Kea after Brown and Buchanan defeated Michinoku and Kea on September 17. Anoa'i began competing in Minoru Suzuki and the Triple Crown Heavyweight Championship in October. Anoo'i was competing with Suzuki in the Triple Crown Championship on October 29, but was disqualified. He teamed up with Suwama to compete in the 2006 World's Best Tag Determination League, winning by nine points over Keiji Mutoh while the other team advanced to second place. Due to their first place, they made it to the finals, where Satoshi Kojima and Hiroyoshi Tenzan defeated them. He continued to play for AJPW throughout 2007, including in the 2007 Tokyo Dome Showdown with Taru, Suwama, and Giant Bernard, who teamed with Riki Choshu, Manabu Nakanishi, Takashi Iizuka, and Naofumi Yamamoto. Pro Wrestling Love in Ryogoku Vol. 17, on February 17 in Ryogoku Vol. Anoa's 2, who teamed up with Suwama to face Taiyo Kea and Toshiaki Kawada in the contested World Tag Team Championship, but came up short. Anoai was a member of Block B of the AJPW 2007, but he ended up with two points in the series, losing last in Block B, despite beating Kawada. In a winning fight over Akira Raijin, Kiyonari Sanada, and T28, his last match was played on March 30 teaming with TARU and Suwama.

He competed for a number of independent organizations, including Great Championship Wrestling, BAW Championship Wrestling, and the Appalachian Wrestling Federation, among others. He also returned to Heartland Wrestling Association for a few games from 2006 to 2007, one of which was him facing Jon Moxley for the HWA Heavyweight Championship on June 10, 2006.

On August 20, 2007, he wrestled under his Real name for WWE; he was defeated by Johnny Jeter during an episode of Raw; he was defeated by Johnny Jeter. He returned the following day for the August 21 SmackDown! He was defeated by Jeter once more on taping. Anoagi began wrestling in the Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) in September 2007, WWE's teenage division, although he was not under WWE control. Before leaving the company, he competed in several tag team matches with Afa Jr. as the Sons of Samoa.

He returned to wrestling on the independent circuit, for companies including EWF. Anooti (Wrestling As Rosie), the promotion's first televised match, took place in Cincinnati on Saturday, October 31, 2009. Rosie – Super Hero In Training) made his debut for the Dynamic Wrestling Alliance over "Sex" Sean Casey. He reunited with the Hurricane in a thrilling match against Chris Benne, JGeorge, and Steve Scott on July 9, 2016, where the two teams teamed with Vinny Pacifico.

Rosey and his brother, Sika, were competing in an extreme wrestling tournament in Florida before his death.
