Rod Thomas (born 11 January 1947) is a Welsh former professional footballer who has represented Wales at the International level. Thomas worked for Gloucester City, Swindon Town, Derby County, Cardiff City, Gloucester County, and Newport County, Gloucestershire, England, for a second spell and Newport County. Bert Head, the county manager of Swindon Town, brought Thomas from non-league Gloucester City in July 1964, costing £500 for his services.
It was almost two years before he made his debut in a drab 0-0 draw with Scunthorpe at the end of the 1965-66 season. Thomas continued to be the club's first pick for the Welsh under-23 squad in the following season.
Thomas made his international debut in 1967 with a 0-0 draw with Northern Ireland - he remains the clubs most captained international footballer. Despite being attracted by bigger clubs, Thomas went on to make nearly 300 appearances for Swindon, including the 1969 League Cup final.
He had made the most international appearances by a Swindon player since being involved in thirty matches for Wales by the time he left in 1973.
When former Town manager Dave Mackay offered £100,000 for Thomas' signature, he moved to Derby County.
Thomas left Derby in 1977 and joined Cardiff City for £10,000, his first appearance at Stoke City.
His four years in Cardiff were marred by injuries, and he returned to Gloucester City in 1981. He made another 20 appearances for his country, as well as brief stints at Newport County, Bath City, and Barry Town before his retirement in 1982.
