Rick Bass, born March 7, 1958), is an American writer and an environmental activist.

Life

Bass was born in Fort Worth, Texas. At Utah State University, he studied petroleum geology. When working as a petroleum geologist in Jackson, Mississippi, he grew up in Houston and started writing short stories about his lunch breaks. He married Elizabeth Hughes Bass, an artist, with whom he had two children before their divorce in 2015. He moved to Yaak Valley, where he continued to shield his adopted home from roads and logging. Rick is a member of the Yaak Valley Forest Council's board. He continues to read, write, and teach around the country and the world.

His works are held in two collections: the Sowell Family Collection in Literature, Community, and the Natural World, part of the Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library at Texas Tech University, and the Wittliff Collections of Texas State University.

Sara shared emotional TikToks, expressing her love for their animals and their safety concerns. Throughout the night, users followed their updates as Cash the donkey rested inside, unaware of the danger outside. The couple, caring for over 100 animals, received an outpouring of support from followers.
