Ricardo Darín Career

Career

Darn made his debut with his parents when he was ten years old. He had risen to a steady spot in television in Argentina by the age of 16, including shows like Alta comedia and Estación Retiro, which were produced by Alberto Migré, Argentina's top television producer at the time.

Darn was one of the galancitos (Spanish for "charmers"), a group of young actors whose television shows were converted into theater productions in the 1980s while still collaborating with Migré. Galancitos were extremely popular in Argentina all around. Darn appeared in the television program Esta ma with Andrea Del Boca in 1987, and two years later in the show Rebelde with Grecia Colmenares.

He went from comedy in the early 1990s, which culminated in his greatest television success in the remake of the 1970s television show Mi cudo (1993–1996) with Luis Brandoni.

Despite his success on television, Darn never left theater and continued to appear in shows including La extra pareja (1985), Algo (1995), and Art (1999–1999). He debuted as theater director in 1990, with the film Pájaros in the nait, starring Adrián Suar, Diego Torres, and Leonardo Sbaraglia.

He began his film career by appearing in films mainly aimed at young audiences, such as He nacido en la ribera, As la vida, La rabona, and Los éxitos del amor, La guerra del amor, La canción de Buenos Aires. He later moved into more mature roles, including appearances in films such as El despense, Revancha de amigo, and La Rosales.

Darn's role in the film Perpeto por perpeto, directed by Alberto Lecchi, was first noted and lauded by the analysts. He appeared in Eduardo Mignogna's The Lighthouse (El Faro in Spanish) and starred in Juan José Campanella's Same Love, Same Rain (El mismo amor, la misma lluvia in Spanish), bringing him further critical acclaim. But his film success was forged by his appearance in the 2000 film Nine Queens (Nueve Reinas in Spanish), in which he appeared alongside Gastón Pauls.

Darn appeared in Mignona's La fuga (The Escape) in 2001, which came after the success of Nine Queens. He appeared in Son of the Bride (El hijo de la novia), alongside Norma Aleandro and Héctor Alterio in the same year. The film was a commercial and critical success, resulting in its nomination for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and the Silver Condor Award for Best Film.

Darn appeared in the comedy film Samy yo yo, which also stars Angie Cepeda in 2002. He also appeared in Kamchatka, which was Argentina's official entry for the 2002 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, but it was not nominated by the Academy.

In 2004, he co-starred with actress Mercedes Morán in the film Moon of Avellaneda (Luna de Avellaneda), in which he played a man struggling to save his childhood club from bankruptcy. In the film The Aura, he portrayed a taxidermist with photographic memory who unknowingly becomes involved in a murder scheme. This last appearance earned him the Argentine Film Critics Association's Silver Condor Award for Best Actor and the Best Actor Award.

Juan José Campanella and his family received a certificate of naturalization in 2006, a special treat in the Kingdom of Spain to people of particular merit. He appeared in the Spanish film The Education of Fairies (La educación de las hadas), as Bebe and Irène Jacob.

He appeared in the film XXXY in 2007, where he plays the struggling father of an intersex teenager's teen daughter. In the year 2000, he appeared and debuted as a film director in La seal (The Signal), a project Eduardo Magnogna left unfinished following his death.

In 2009, he appeared in The Secret in Their Eyes (El secreto de sus ojos), a film directed by Juan José Campanella. The film received the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, and it was the second biggest box-office hit in Argentina's history. Darn was awarded a second Silver Condor Award for Best Actor and his first nomination in the Goya Award in the same category.

He appeared in El baile de la Victoria, a Spanish film that earned him a nomination for the Goya Award, this time as the Best Actor in a Support Role.

In 2010, he appeared in Pablo Trasmán's Carancho, with Martina Gusmán, where he played an unscrupulous lawyer.

He appeared in Sebastián Borensztein's hit Chinese Take-Away (Un cuento chino) in 2011, alongside Muriel Santa Ana and Ignacio Huang. In the Argentine Show Business's 2001-2010 Decade, he received two Konex Awards: the Platinum Konex for Best Actor and the Most Influential Figure.

He appeared in White Elephant (Elefante blanco) in 2012 again, as did Martina Gusmán. He appeared in Tesis sobre un homicidio (Thesis on a Homicide) and the 7th Floor in the following year (Séptimo).

He returned to theater and appeared in Escenas de la vida conyugal (a Spanish interpretation of Ingmar Bergman's Scenes from a Marriage) with Valeria Bertuccelli in 2013. In 2015, he reprised his role with Érica Rivas in Mar del Plata. For his role in a Dramatic Comedy, he was given the Sea Star (Estrella de Mar) Award for Best Actor in a Dramatic Comedy.

He appeared in Wild Tales (Relatos salvajes), Argentina's biggest box-office hit, alongside Leonardo Sbaraglia, Oscar Martnez, Érica Rivas, Dar o Grandinetti, and Julieta Zylberberg in 2014. This was his third film to be nominated for an Academy Award. His success earned him his third nomination for the Goya Awards, this time in the Best Actor category.

In 2015, he appeared in Cesc Gay's Truman, earning him the Concha de Plata award for Best Actor at the San Sebastián International Film Festival.
