Remco Campert Life

Remco Campert (born 29 July 1929) is a Dutch writer, poet, and columnist.

Early years

Remco Wouter Campert was born in The Hague, son of writer and poet Jan Campert, author of the poem De achttien dooden, and actor Joe Broedelet. He and his parents divorced when he was three years old, causing him to live with either of his parents or even grandparents, depending on the situation and circumstances. In 1943, his father died in Neuengamme, a Nazi concentration camp. Remco returned to live with his mother. After having lived in Epe for three years, they returned to Amsterdam after World War II in 1945.
