Raymond Arthur "Ray" MacDonnell (born March 5, 1928) is an American actor best known for his role as Dr. Donnell.

Joe Martin appeared in All My Children, the daytime soap opera, a role he played for 40 years.

In 2004, MacDonnell received a Daytime Emmy Award for Lifetime Achievement (along with fellow All My Children castmate Ruth Warrick).

He appeared on All My Children from 1961-1969 as Philip Capice.

He appeared in a live-action television pilot in 1967.

MacDonnell resigned from All My Children on September 29, 2009.

The show went from New York to California in December 2009, marking the end of his 40-year career, although he would perform guest appearances from time to time.

Susan Lucci, the show's only original cast member still performing on the program, was fired after his departure from AMC.

MacDonnell, as well as on-screen wife Lee Meriwether, will return to All My Children on March 8, 9, and 16.

MacDonnell appeared on ABC for the final in September 2011.

In 2013, he returned to Prospect Park for a short time.

Patricia Anne Broderick was married in 1961 by MacDonnell. Sarah, Kyle, and Daniel were three children.

On June 10, 2021, he died at his Chappaqua, New York, at the age of 93.

MacDonnell resigned from All My Children in 2009. The show's production shifted from New York to California, marking the end of his 40-year run. MacDonnell, along with on-screen wife Lee Meriwether as Ruth Martin, will be returning to All My Children in 2011. MacDonnell's final, which aired on September 23, 2011, was also returned to All My Children.
