Q'Orianka Kilcher Life

Qoorianka Kilcher (born February 11, 1990) is an American-Peruvian actress, singer, and activist.

In the 2005 film The New World, she played Pocahontas, and in Princess Kaiulani (2009), she appeared as Pocahontas.

Early life

Kilcher was born in Schweigmatt, Baden-Württemberg, West Germany. In Quechua, her name Q'orianka means "Golden Eagle." Her father is from Quechua-Huachipaeri, Peru, while her mother, Saskia Kilcher, is an American civil rights campaigner of Swiss-German origins. When Kilcher was two, she and her mother moved to Kapa, Hawaii, USA, where her brother Kainoa was born.

For a large portion of her life, her father, who is estranged, was absent. Kilcher, who grew up in Hawaii, was inspired by the local culture and began hula dancing at the age of five. She also worked in Tahitian dance and West African, as well as ballet, hip hop, and modern dance. Kilcher received the Young Choreographer Award at age seven in 1997.

In 1996 and 1997, she was chosen to compete in the international Tahitian Dance Competition in San Jose, California. She appeared in over fifty professional dance performances around the island. She was chosen to be the soprano soloist at Schubert's Mass in G and Amahl and the Night Visitors by Gian Carlo Menotti, as a member of the Waikiki Singers. Kilcher was the first child to study classical voice at the University of Hawaii with Laurance Paxton at the age of six years. Bill Ogilvie, a student at the Diamond Head Theatre, studied drama with her. Many of Hawaii's top artists, such as Willie K (Kahaiali) among others, booked her as a featured singer and opening act to several of Hawaii's best singers and opening acts.

In 1999, her mother moved the family to California. On the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, Kilcher began to sing and dance for tourist donations and busking.

Personal life

Kainoa and Xihu Kilcher, both of whom act as actors and stunt performers, are brothers in Q'orianka. Jewel, the singer, was her first cousin to be disinherited.

Saskia Kilcher is the granddaughter of Ray "Pirate" Genet, a Swiss-born mountaineer who later immigrated to the United States, and Wurtilla Dora "Wurzy" Kilcher, who was born in Alaska to Swiss immigrant parents. Yule F. Kilcher, Q'orianka's great-grandfather, was elected as a member of the Alaska Senate and served as a delegate to the Alaskan constitutional convention.

Kilcher suffered a serious neck and shoulder injury while filming of Dora and the Lost City of Gold in 2018. After being treated for her injuries by third-party physicians, she received disability insurance benefits from the insurance company. Kilcher was charged with unlawful workers' compensation fraud in May 2022 after an inquiry revealed that she had shot scenes for the television show Yellowstone before receiving disability compensation. At her arraignment in May, she pleaded not guilty. Variety announced that she would appear in court on August 7, 2022.
