In 2013, the Brazilian moved to Europe to work in open-wheeled racing, making his debut in the BRDC Formula 4 Championship and Prosyre Formula Renault Championship, clinching the title with only one race remaining.
Fittipaldi participated in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship for Fortec Motorsports in 2015. Fittipaldi finished 16th in the championship standings at Algarve, with a best result of sixth at two of the races.
Fittipaldi returned to Fortec in 2016, this time alongside fellow rookie Louis Delétraz in the Formula V8 3.5 Series. However, he only won one podium and ended up 10th in the standings, eight positions behind his colleague.
Despite this, he continued to compete in the World Series, this time with Lotus. He won six races, dominating the championship by 44 points over his nearest rival, Matevos Isaakyan.

"I think Pietro did a great job on his first day as a child," Haas team principal Guenther Steiner said on Fittipaldi's debut. Fittipaldi said that it is impossible for a driver to make it to Formula One, and he was happy to have finished his first round.
At the season finale in Abu Dhabi, he was back for Grosjean once more. Fittipaldi qualified 19th and was promoted to 17th place on the grid by other drivers' penalties.
