Pierce Brown is an American science fiction author who writes the Red Rising trilogy, which includes Red Rising (2014), Golden Son (2015), Morning Star (2016), Iron Gold (2018), and Dark Age (2019).

Personal life

Pierce Brown grew up in seven different states. Colleen Brown Brown, his mother, was the President and CEO of Fisher Communications and the Chairman of American Apparel's Board of Directors. Guy Brown, his father, is a former local banker.

Brown earned his degree from Pepperdine University, where he concentrated on political science and economics. He worked in a variety of positions in politics and startup tech firms following his graduation. When Brown sold Red Rising in 2012, he was working for the NBC Page Program in Burbank, California, and living in his former political science professor's garage.

Pierce Brown Career

Career

Brown wrote six books and was rejected by over 120 agents before launching Red Rising. In two months above his parents' garage in Seattle, Washington, he wrote the book.

Red Rising, which was published in 2014, received numerous rave reviews and landed on the New York Times Best Seller list at #20. The Golden Son, the 2015 sequel, debuted at number six on the same chart and was praised by critics alike. Morning Star debuted on the New York Times Best Seller list in Adult Hardcover, Digital Book, and cumulative in 2016. It also ranked first on the USA Today Best-Selling Books list, placing it at #1.

Universal Pictures acquired the rights for a film adaptation in a 7-figure auction in February 2014, less than a month after the Red Rising film premiered. Marc Forster is expected to lead, with Brown directing the screenplay. "I took a meager little break, mostly to stretch my screenwriting muscles," Brown told Entertainment Weekly after completing the original trilogy. The film was still in production as of February 2016, with Brown completing the first two drafts. In March 2016, he said, "I have written the first two drafts of the film and now we're on the third." Hopefully, this year, it will be greenlit. 'Lawrence of Arabia in space,' the film makers' inception, is terribly revealing for me because it's my favorite film." The rights were eventually returned to Brown, and he announced in January 2018 that he was creating Red Rising as a television series. Brown revealed in October 2018 that the project had a producer and a showrunner, as well as the fact that the film rights had been resold to an unspecified studio.

In February 2016, Brown announced a sequel trilogy, but it would begin with the book Iron Gold in August 2017. In May 2017, Red Rising: Sons of Ares, a prequel comic book series, debuted.

Brown said of his writing:

The author has said that his writing has been "hugely" influenced by his readers' feedback, which explains:

"It's surprising that they have found a home in these books," Brown said.
