Paul Wong Life

Paul Wong Koon-chung (born 31 March 1964) also known as Paul Wong is a Hong Kong musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer.

He is best known as the lead guitarist of the rock band Beyond, as well as occasional songwriter and lead vocalist (most popular in hit song Earth).

In 1999, Wong began his solo career, touring with artists as both a record producer and a session singer (guitar or vocals).

1964–2005: Early life and Beyond

Paul Wong was born on March 31 in 1964, growing up with father, mother, and two younger brothers in Kowloon City. Despite this, his mother died later in life, separated from her husband and children when his parents divorced.

He was the champion at a few art competitions as a juvenile. Before he majored in design at Hong Kong Polytechnic College, drummer Yip Sai Wing had been invited by drummer Yip Sai Wing to lead a design contest for Beyond's first performance. Later, he became a member of the group's replacement, as well as a former lead guitarist Chan Sze On. Although he worked at an advertising company, he was also working on several pieces of design, including cassette Goodbye Ideals (1986) and clothing design of Contact of Life Concert (1991).

He began his singing contributions to Beyond as the lead singer on "Midnight Stray" (1988). He appeared lead vocals on "The Ground," one of the band's most popular hits in the same year. In addition, he began to appear in various television series, including Two of a Kind starring Hacken Lee and Wong in the leading roles.

Beyond Wong Ka Kui's mainstay died on June 30, 1993. The remaining three members of the band's new album, The 2nd-Floor Flat (1994), have since moved to Rock Records. Wong Ka Kui's death, Paul Wong and Wong Ka Keung became the band's main songwriters. The media announced that Paul Wong and Wong Ka Keung had discorded due to the differences in their musical preferences in circa 1999. Beyond Live in 2003, the concerts Beyond Beyond Live was revived. However, they sold the band's last and break-up shows in 2005. Beyond the Story Live was a weekly broadcast.

Wong began performing as a soloist in late 1999, when Beyond was taking a break. He formed the band Hann, which includes Jun Kung, Mak Man Wai (member of LMF) and Dino Acconci from the band Soler. Later on, Wong established his own studio, Polar Bear Studio. He began working with Universal Records and later released Yellow Paul Wong (2001) and Black White (2001) in order. In the Ultimate Song Chart Awards Presentation (2001 & 2002), he received "The Gold Award as a Singer-songwriter" on these two albums.

Wong expressed an interest in musicals. He appeared in the Victorian Harbour by troupe Theatre Space in 2000. The tale was based on a broadway musical West Side Story, which was localized and whose roots were transplanted to Hong Kong. All performers on the seashore of Hong Kong Cultural Centre were taken lead by local conductor Henry Shek and performed with Hong Kong New Philharmonic Symphonic Orchestra.

In November 2002, Wong's debut concert Play It Loud in Hong Kong Coliseum. He released an album Existence (2004), where he invested by himself after the Universal's deal came to an end.

Beyond Beyond The Story Live 2005, the band's last world tour, took place in 2005. In addition, he served as the musical supervisor for the musical Akapi Shooting Incident by Commercial Radio Hong Kong, which culminated in Sammy Leung and Kitty Yuen's participation in the shooting, and Wong produced a few soundtracks.

In April 2006, Wong began working with Chinese Warner Records to investigate the Chinese mainland China's market. In October, he appeared at the Hong Kong Coliseum solo, namely Paul Wong Hong Kong Concert 2006: The Music of Madman's Study.
