Paterson Joseph (born 22 June 1964) is a British actor.

In 1990, he appeared in King Lear and Love's Labour's Lost at the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Alan Johnson, a character on Casualty (1997–2004), Green Wing (2004–12), Boy Meets Girl (2009–1999), Timeless (2016-18), and Timeless's Connor Mason.

The Beach (2000), Greenfingers (2001), and The Other Man (2008) were two of his film roles.

He is also known for his appearances of the Marquis de Carabas in Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere adaptations.

Personal life

Joseph lived in the Loire Valley with his French wife Emmanuelle and their son before mig to London. Joseph worked as a cook before becoming an actor. Joseph is a fan of Brazil's national football team.

Joseph was second in the Ian Charleson Awards in 1991 for his appearances as Oswald in King Lear, Dumaine in Love's Labor's Lost, and The Last Days of Don Juan at the Royal Shakespeare Company. Richard Henry appeared in Mister Charlie by James Baldwin, directed by Greg Hersov at the Royal Exchange in Manchester in 1992.

Joseph's theater credits include his title role in Othello at the Royal Exchange in Manchester, as well as parts in Henry IV, King Lear, and Hamlet for a production in New York City. In 2012, he appeared in Brutus in a RSC Julius Caesar set in Africa. He undertook a challenge for Channel 4's "My Shakespeare" to produce a version of Romeo & Juliet starring 20 young non-actors from London's impoverished Harlesden neighborhood.
