Paige O'Hara (born Donna Paige Helmintoller, 1956) is an American actress, voice actor, guitarist, and painter.
When O'Hara played Ellie May Chipley in the musical Showboat in 1983, she began her career as a Broadway actress.
In 1991, she made her motion picture debut in Disney's Beauty and the Beast, in which she played Belle, the film's heroine.

O'Hara was born May 10, 1956 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and attended Nova High School in Davie, Florida, and Parkway Middle School of The Arts, also in Florida. She appeared in revues with the Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre.
Her mother is of Irish descent, and her father was born in Ireland to a family of Irish, British, Dutch, and German origins.
O'Hara began acting at the age of four by attending acting classes in her home state, Florida. She didn't know she was interested in singing and enrolled in a performing arts high school until she was 12 years old. O'Hara cites American actress and singer Judy Garland as one of her idols.

Career
In 1983, O'Hara appeared in her first Broadway appearance as Ellie May Chipley in the revival of Showboat, starring Donald O'Connor. She reprised her role in the 1989 Houston Grand Opera's production and stayed with them when the show was relocated to Egypt's Cairo Opera House. She's also performed on the 1989 Grammy-nominated recording of the musical with Jerry Hadley, Frederica von Stade, and Teresa Stratas, performed by John McGlinn on the Angel EMI label, continuing her Ellie's legacy as Ellie. Edwin Drood (Broadway and national tour) and Ado Annie in a national tour of Oklahoma are among her other American stage credits. William Hammerstein's film "Woman Hammerstein" was directed. She appeared in Les Misérables on Broadway in 1995, where she appeared as Fantine.
