Ozan Marsh (June 25, 1920, Pasadena, California) was a pianist active in international concert appearances as well as in the United States. The late Ozan Marsh, a disciple of Rachmaninoff, Horowitz, Petri, Casadesus, and von Sauer, has received acclaim from audiences and critics around the world, particularly for his portrayal of Liszt and Chopin. * He was also known for his appearances of Kabalevsky's piano pieces. Marsh earned critical acclaim in recital appearances and as soloist with some of the world's most coveted orchestras throughout his career, including the New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Boston Pops, Boston Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, Warsaw Philharmonic, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra, to name a few. He studied in Europe with Robert and Gaby Casadesus, Isidore Phillipp, and other well-known figures of this period. * He travelled to Vienna and worked with Emil von Sauer (one of Franz Liszt's last survivors) and continued his studies with Egon Petri during summer sessions in Zakopane, Poland. Marsh made his Paris and Warsaw debut (Warsaw Conservatory) in 1938, only months before the war started. * His first Town Hall New York debut in 1939 earned him acclaim from the New York Times. * During WWII, he served with the Navy's "Lighter than Air" dirigible squadron as well as a final position as a chaplains assistant due to a war-related disability. Appeared appeared with the Boston Pops Orchestra (in Boston and on national tour tours), as well as hundreds of solo concerts throughout the United States under Columbia Artists Management's Community Concerts Series, over 200 performances with the Boston Pops Orchestra (in Boston and throughout the United States). * During his lifetime, he had the opportunity to visit Russia (former Soviet Union 1980)at the invitation of the Soviet Government and at the invitation of Dimitri Kabalevsky, one of the country's finest senior composers. * He toured South Korea and China PRC twice, as well as appearing with orchestra with the Beijing (China) Opera Orchestra. Ozan Marsh combined an impressive performing career with a highly respected academic career. * He taught at Indiana University, Manhattan School of Music, Butler University, St. Lawrence University, University of Arizona, and the Chautauqua Institution. * He has participated in many international piano competitions, including the Van Cliburn, the Franz Liszt, the National Federation of Music Clubs, and several others.
