SOUL OF SPORT: Manchester City's goal chase continues as the Premier League title chase continues with a dramatic win over Crystal Palace... with ANDY HOOPER on hand to capture the best of the action

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 8, 2024
Welcome back to the Soul of Sport. ANDY HOOPER travelled to Selhurst Park to watch Manchester City beat Crystal Palace in a six-goal Premier League thriller in the latest episode of the series. After Kevin De Bruyne scored his 100th goal for the club and sparked the club's revival, the city resumed their title defense in imperious fashion in the capital. After Jean-Philippe Mateta fired into the far corner, Palace stunned the world leaders until De Bruyne bent home a brilliant attempt to bring City back to level. The Pep Guardiola's heavyweights then took over the game. Youngster Rico Lewis came into their lead and City was quickly calmed, with Erling Haaland converting a cross on 66 minutes. De Bruyne scored his second game of the season shortly after, but Odsonne Edouard's late goal gave up a tumultuous finish. With 24-70mm and 70-200 lenses, our cameraman caught the action.

Manchester City kept up the pressure on their title rivals, with Kevin de Bruyne scoring his 100th goal for the club in their 4-2 victory over Crystal Palace. There were questions regarding whether or not the Belgian or Erling Haaland would be in the starting line-up for the lunchtime kick-off at Selhurst Park, where the hosts were fired in front three minutes after kick-off. De Bruyne drew the sides level moments later, and City took the lead for the first time less than two minutes after the restart was restarted by Rico Lewis' second Premier League goal before De Bruyne threw up Haaland for City's third. In the 70th minute, De Bruyne added another in a solo effort to make it a century of goals for City. Odsonne Edouard, a Palace replacement, fought one back.

In a slow time for the hosts, Jordan Ayew netted, but Ange Postecoglou's resurgent staff carried on, and Son paid tribute to summer signing Vicario. Vicario made two pivotal early saves to deny Ayew and Odsonne Edouard, and although he missed out on his fifth clean sheet after losing Hugo Lloris as the club's first-choice goalkeeper, he continues to grow his name.

As he looks to sign a new contract with Man United, David De Gea critics are outraged

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 21, 2023
David De Gea has heard it all before. All the talk is there, there's so much silliness. He's not strong enough with the ball at his feet, so if Erik ten Hag wants Manchester United to play out from the back, he'll need another goalkeeper. De Gea has been on the block long enough to know that the only way to get it out is to keep doing what you do. Get to work on making the kind of miraculous saves he made against Crystal Palace. Odsonne Edouard's shot to the bar was so good it had been put into the discussion about where it stands in his collection of best ever. Get to work, with clean sheets and winning games for United starting against Premier League leaders Arsenal on Sunday. De Gea will be just two behind Peter Schmeichel's record of 180 for United, if he has a clean sheet at the Emirates this afternoon. The backlog of accomplishments speaks more than enough in the Spaniard's mind.

Southampton 1-2 Crystal Palace: Adam Armstrong leads the Saints to victory in the second half of the season

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 7, 2023
AADAM PATEL AT SELHURST PARK: This was only a distraction for Southampton. They have more problems to solve, but this will do wonders in confidence for a team that has remained in last place in the Premier League after losing six straight games in the league. It wasn't just the win, but also the way in which they came back against a solid Crystal Palace team after going down to Odsonne Edouard's early opener. Palace pushed out of the blocks with Wilfried Zaha cutting in dangerously and blazing over, and Patrick Vieira's side had to make the breakthrough in less than an hour.

According to Patrick Vieira, Wilfried Zaha can stand up for himself

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 30, 2022
Patrick Vieira lauded Wilfried Zahaha's ability to stand up for himself after he had rough Southampton care to make the eventual winner for Crystal Palace pick up the winner on Saturday. It was the Eagles' third straight home victory and lifted them to the top half of the league. Zaha, whose deal came to an end in nine months, was the game's sole goal, scored by Odsonne Edouard, and was a constant threat to the Saints, who missed a slew of second-half opportunities.
