Biography and Career
Binev was born in Sliven, Bulgaria, on July 5th. He attended the Krastyo Sarafov National Academy of Theatre and Film Arts in 1958.
Binev stayed at the Mladezhki Theater in Sofia, where he spent the remainder of his life. "Binev was an encyclopedist and a man with a peculiar sense of humor," the director Andrey Avramov said. He was also known for his delicate and beautiful way of dealing with people. Binev's "Socrates" by Guilherme Figueiredo, "Amadeus" by Peter Shaffer, "The Dresser" by Ronald Harwood, "King John" by Friedrich Dürrenmatt, "When the Roses Dance" by Valery Petrov and so on, were among the scripts. He has twice been honoured with the ASKEER, Bulgarian award for theater art.
Binev began filming in the 1960s. His appearances in Amendment to the Defense-of-State Act were recognized at FBFF Varna'76 (Festival for Bulgarian Featured Films) and the TV series Nights with the White Horses, including Academician Urumov, for which he was honoured from the Union of Bulgarian Filmmakers and the city of Sofia are among his memorable performances. Binev participated in several international productions as East/West (1999) with Catherine Deneuve during his time in Rome.
He was awarded the Order Of Saint Cyril And Saint Methodius by the French Government.
The Mladezhki Theater, together with Binev's wife Domna Ganeva, released a CD entitled "Nikolay Binev singing" in 2004. The collection includes arias from Verdi's operas and songs from the musical Yesterday by Lyubomir Denev's operas and songs.
