THREE Liverpool stars are named among the Premier League's most wasteful finishers this season - but who else has lacked killer instinct?

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 26, 2024
The Premier League's most wasteful players this season have been revealed, with three Liverpool stars ranking inside the top-ten footballers to have missed the most big chances during the 2023-24 campaign. The Reds have notably struggled to find the back of the net of late - and their scoring woes has been costly, so much so that Liverpool have seemingly dropped out of the title race following their 2-0 defeat by Everton on Wednesday night.  'I don't know [if we're still in the race],' Klopp admitted after the Merseyside derby. 'I can only apologise to the people. Everybody who is with us knows how hard this is for us as well, but I know for other people it's especially hard. So we should have done better but we didn't and that's why we lost.'

Why Mauricio Pochettino could face the Chelsea sack: Reports he is safe are premature... and owners' review will hold him to account - even if they are to blame too, writes KIERAN GILL

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 24, 2024
KIERAN GILL AT THE EMIRATES STADIUM: Truth be told, this was originally going to be a piece about Nicolas Jackson (inset bottom) and whether he could do a job as a left winger if Chelsea sign a striker this summer. But that was when it was 1-0. Then it became 2-0, which was frustrating for Chelsea. Then 3-0, mildly embarrassing. Then 4-0, humiliating. Then 5-0, a certified capitulation in which one of the country's most loyal followings decided they had seen enough, exiting the Emirates Stadium's away end long before full-time. Jackson and the left wing debate can wait for another day. After this loss to Arsenal, Chelsea have bigger problems that need addressing, and it is hard not to feel that they go beyond the manager.

Nicolas Jackson has to be 'braver' insists Ally McCoist as struggling Chelsea striker wastes huge goalscoring chance against Arsenal

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 23, 2024
Ally McCoist (inset) has told Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson to be 'braver' after the 22-year-old fluffed a close-range headed effort in Tuesday's Premier League clash against rivals Arsenal. Jackson was given the task of being Chelsea's main source of goals - in the absence of Cole Palmer who missed the match with illness - and spurned a huge scoring opportunity.

Joe Cole tells Chelsea what to do next with Nicolas Jackson after the striker fluffed a catalogue of chances in FA Cup semi-final defeat against Man City

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 23, 2024
Joe Cole has given some advice to Chelsea on what to do next with Nicolas Jackson, after the 22-year-old striker squandered a glut of chances during the Blues' FA Cup semi-final defeat against Man City at Wembley on Saturday. Mauricio Pochettino's side controlled large spells of the closely-fought match and created a host of glorious opportunities in front of goal, before losing 1-0 in the wake of Bernardo Silva's late strike for City. Jackson was the primary culprit for fluffing his lines and received huge criticism from Chelsea fans both during and after the match - and was given just a 4/10 in Mail Sport's post-match player ratings.

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino hits out after the Blues were controversially denied a penalty after the ball struck Jack Grealish's hand in FA Cup semi-final defeat by Man City

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 21, 2024

When asked about the incident, Pochettino explained why he approached referee Michael Oliver after the match.

KIERAN GILL AT WEMBLEY: Nicolas Jackson was one-on-one with Stefan Ortega in the first half and somehow did not even take a shot.  Chelsea's £32million striker has shown his potential in glimpses - his total of 10 Premier League goals is the same that Didier Drogba managed in his first season - but cock-ups like this one will only feed those who say he is not good enough. It is hard to think that the likes of Ivan Toney and Ollie Watkins would not have seized the chances that came his way.

Nicolas Jackson blew the chance to redeem himself with Mauricio Pochettino after Chelsea's penalty farce... his shameful week plummeted to new depths in defeat by Man City, writes SAMI MOKBEL

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 20, 2024
SAMI MOKBEL AT WEMBLEY: No wonder Nicolas Jackson was so desperate to take that penalty against Everton. Because if this is how he finishes in open play, then he needs all the help he can get. That maybe harsh on the Chelsea striker, but a week that started shamefully for Jackson plummeted to deeper depths here at Wembley on Saturday following a display of profligacy that contributed in no small part to his side missing out on a place in the FA Cup final.

PLAYER RATINGS: Nicolas Jackson scores just 4/10 after missing huge chances for Chelsea - but which Man City star was the unlikely hero in FA Cup semi-final win?

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 20, 2024
KIERAN GILL AND JACK GAUGHAN AT WEMBLEY: Holders Manchester City beat Chelsea 1-0 with a late Bernardo Silva goal on Saturday to reach the FA Cup final. Silva sidefooted the ball home in the 84th minute after Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic parried a shot from former Blues midfielder Kevin De Bruyne. Both keepers were busy with De Bruyne, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish missing chances for City, while Nicolas Jackson, Cole Palmer and Noni Madueke had efforts saved by Stefan Ortega, smothered by the City defence or lost to wayward shots.

Mauricio Pochettino says Chelsea have 'moved on' from penalty row that marred 6-0 win over Everton... as he insists he sent a 'clear message' to players during a team meeting

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 19, 2024
Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has insisted his side have 'moved on' from the penalty debacle that marred their 6-0 win over Everton this week.  The Blues romped to one of their best wins this season against the Toffees on Monday night, but a squabble over who would take a penalty with the score at 4-0 was the main talking point after the game.  Noni Madueke was seen picking up the ball after James Tarkowski fouled the winger, before an enraged Nicolas Jackson attempted to grab it off him. The pair continued to argue as Madueke carried the ball towards the penalty spot, before Cole Palmer - already on a hat-trick - pointed out he was the team's designated taker.

Chelsea is a 'CESSPIT of over-inflated egos', claims Chris Sutton on It's All Kicking Off... Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson's penalty scrap shows the Blues are a 'team in name only'

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 18, 2024
Chris Sutton has dubbed Chelsea's dressing room a 'cesspit of over-inflated egos' following the on-pitch scrap over who would take the penalty against Everton on Monday night. Cole Palmer was already on a hat-trick when the Blues - who were leading 4-0 - won a penalty after Noni Madueke was brought down in the box, and having netted nine times from the spot this season was primed to step up once again. But his efforts were delayed when a tussle broke out between Madueke and Nicolas Jackson over whether one of them might take the spot kick.

Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer swinging PUNCHES at each other, Sadio Mane fuming at Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland given a rollicking... team-mates' biggest spats after Chelsea's penalty sideshow

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 16, 2024
Forget the ludicrous own goals, daft celebrations and referees losing their footing. Nothing in football brings a chuckle quite like two team-mates forgetting about the opposition and having a pop at one another instead. Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson's primary school routine is the latest in a long line of incidents that we are all quick to condemn as disgraceful, but really make us all laugh quite a lot. Chelsea's 6-0 thumping of Everton was overshadowed by the farcical scenes as Cole Palmer shoved Jackson away after he tried to grab the ball off him - despite the Blues' top scorer already netting a hat-trick at the time.

Revealed: Why Nicolas Jackson tried to take Chelsea penalty against Everton, which led to on-field bust-up with Noni Madueke and Cole Palmer

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 16, 2024
Nicolas Jackson had a solid reason behind his desire to take the Chelsea penalty that caused a squabble among Blues team-mates on Monday. Three Chelsea players were embroiled in a physical row before the hosts' fifth goal against Everton at Stamford Bridge, with Noni Madueke and Jackson involved in a squabble that had to be broken up by Conor Gallagher and Malo Gusto. Cole Palmer took control of the ball and scored his fourth of the game, but afterwards, it became clear why Jackson wanted to get a chance to score his second of the contest.

Why Mauricio Pochettino can't escape blame in the penalty sideshow that overshadowed 6-0 win over Everton... but he IS right on one thing about Chelsea's selfish spot-kick row stars

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 16, 2024
KIERAN GILL AT STAMFORD BRIDGE: Mauricio Pochettino made a prediction when addressing his players in the confines of Chelsea's changing room, his mood not matching that of a manager whose team had triumphed 6-0. He told them that the first question in his post-match press conference would not be on their brilliance, or Cole Palmer, or how nicely this set them up for Saturday's FA Cup semi-final with Manchester City. It would be on the penalty; the negative that marred the positives. And he was right. Pochettino faced five questions in that presser, the first four on Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke fighting over who should take that spot-kick until Palmer finally scored his fourth goal on an evening where the embarrassment should have been reserved only for Everton.

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 15, 2024
KIERAN GILL AT STAMFORD BRIDGE: Cole Palmer destroyed Everton with a four-goal haul that reignited Chelsea's push for a European place, but his manager Mauricio Pochettino said this sensational victory was marred by the sight of his players fighting over who got to take a penalty kick. Everton endured a highly embarrassing evening as Palmer netted a perfect hat-trick in the space of 16 minutes. He later added his fourth from a spot-kick, though only after a remarkable row ignited between Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke. Palmer eventually pulled rank to leave himself tied with Manchester City's Erling Haaland on 20 goals at the top of the Premier League's scoring charts, with Jackson and academy starlet Alfie Gilchrist also getting on the scoresheet.

KIERAN GILL AT STAMFORD BRIDGE: Cole Palmer's exceptional maiden season at Stamford Bridge continued as Chelsea demolished Everton. Mauricio Pochettino's side wasted little time seizing the initiative on Monday, and Palmer netted a quick-fire brace to give the Blues a comfortable lead. A calamitous mistake from Jordan Pickford gifted Palmer his hat-trick before Nicolas Jackson made it four before half-time.
