Early life

Sandow, who is of Italian descent, grew up in Van Nest, a Bronx suburb. Around age 19, he migrated to Manhattan to study acting in the Two-Year Professional Actor Training Program and theater.

Career

Sandow has appeared on many television shows including Law & Order, Third Watch, NYPD Blue, Boardwalk Empire, and Blue Bloods. Joseph Caputo, the shows' first black actor, had been supposed to appear for a few episodes in the second season, but he was made a series regular during the third season.

He began his acting career in theater on Off-Broadway. In 2015, he wrote, directed, and appeared in The Wannabe. The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and later received a wider audience.
