Nick Cassavetes Life

Nicholas David Rowland Cassavetes (born May 21, 1959) is an American actor, director and writer.

Personal life

In 1985, Cassavetes married Isabelle Rafalovich. They had two daughters together before divorcing. Sasha was born with a heart defect and underwent substantial surgery; Cassavetes' film John Q. was dedicated to Sasha, and his later adaptation of My Sister's Keeper was based in part on Sasha's medical experience.

Cassavetes later married Heather "Queenie" Wahlquist, and they have a daughter together. Wahlquist has appeared in several of his films, including a small role in The Notebook as Sara, a secondary character and best friend to the female lead Allie Hamilton, portrayed by Rachel McAdams. Cassavetes' own mother, Gena Rowlands, appears as the older, married Allie (Hamilton) Calhoun.

Nick Cassavetes Career

Early life and career

Cassavetes was born in New York City, the son of Greek-American actor and film producer John Cassavetes and actress Gena Rowlands. He appeared in his father's film Husbands (1970) as an infant. Cassavetes had to leave the field after spending so much of his childhood being surrounded by film, but he didn't want to go into the field. He later attended Syracuse University on a basketball scholarship, but after an injury, he rethinked his academic career, ultimately choosing to attend his parents' alma mater, the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York.

Among other things, he has appeared in the films Face/Off, The Wraith, Life, and The Astronaut's Wife. He has produced several films, including John Q, Alpha Dog, She's So Lovely, Unhook the Stars, The Notebook, and My Sister's Keeper. He also adapted the screenplay for Blow and wrote the dialogue for Justin Timberlake's "What Goes Around... Comes Around."

Cassavetes won fifth place in the World Poker Tour (WPT) Invitational Season 5, losing a bluff. He appeared on season 5 of The Game Show Network's (GSN) High Stakes Poker.

In The Hangover: Part II, he appeared in the season 7 opener of Entourage on HBO and Tattoo Joe as a cameo, assassinating Liam Neeson from the cast due to scheduling conflicts.

'One last hurrah. Love you, Mom. See you soon…,' he wrote alongside a photo of the pair smiling together.

The TRUE story behind The Notebook as star Gena Rowlands' own battle with dementia is laid bare in devastating echo of her on-screen role

The Notebook starring Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling is perhaps one of the most romantic films of all time. But it's not just McAdams and Gosling who captured our hearts two decades ago as Allie and Noah, but also Rowlands and James Garner who play the couple in their twilight years. On Tuesday, 20 years after The Notebook was released, the director and Rowlands' son Nick Cassavetes revealed that his mother had been living with Alzheimer's for the past five years, mirroring the storyline of her character in the hit film, based on the Nicholas Sparks novel. But many fans may not be aware that the movie, which grossed more than $117 million worldwide, was actually inspired by a true story.
