Nathan Lloyd Strong (born in Neath, Wales) is a rugby union footballer for Tondu RFC. Strong's first sporting interest as an infant was soccer, but eventually converted to the oval ball code, playing for Beddau RFC Under-16s (in Beddau). Nathan rose to the top of his local team Tondu RFC in 1996 and went on to captain the team after playing for Bridgend RFC at youth level.
A brief stint with Caerphilly RFC, where the time was coaching, prevented a return to Tondu, from where representative honours were won with Glamorgan County.
Nathan carried a number of fellow Tondu players down to Brewery Field to represent Bridgend following the watershed in Welsh rugby, which occurred in 2003 with the introduction of regionalism. Nathan, who made his name for himself in the premiership by playing at prop, went on to captain Bridgend, and when not playing rugby league for the Bridgend Blue Bulls, he was capped by Wales in the thirteen man code. Nathan, a resident of Rockwool Insulation Ltd in Bridgend, relocated to Pontypridd RFC in 2005, bringing the benefit of his knowledge and physical appearance to the young Ponty squad. Nathan had a string of barnstorming back row appearances from 2005 to 2006, culminating in the honour of winning the Konica Minolta Welsh Cup as team captain, making a huge and immediate impact on the Sardis Road side.
Nathan was named Player of the Year by the Supporter's Club in 2006, a fitting tribute to his tireless contribution during the season. Nathan was charged with leading the team during the 2007/08 season as a forwards coach after Dale McIntosh's departure to take over as Forwards Coach. Nathan decided to leave the team and join Aberavon for the 2010/11/12 season after 5 years at Pontypridd.
Nathan has returned to action for his hometown team, Tondu, following a serious knee injury that kept him out of the game for a few seasons.
Nathan has appeared in Classic lions tournaments around the world and regularly participates in charitable vets tournaments.
