Nathan Rogers Life

Nathan Rogers (born July 16, 1979 in Hamilton, Ontario) is a Canadian folk singer/songwriter. * He is the son of Stan and Ariel Rogers. * On June 2, 1983, his father, a folk singer and songwriter, died in a crash aboard Air Canada Flight 797, gaining a keen admiration for singers and songwriters alike, including Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot, and Leonard Cohen. Early musical experiences included singing in school choirs and plays. While attending boarding school in Oakville, Rogers performed with a world-class boys choir, occasionally touring as far afield as New Orleans. Rogers completed his high school education at Westdale Secondary School in 1997 and then moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1998. * Rogers performed with Mitch Podolak on the World Next Door Festival before deciding to pursue a degree in Religious Studies in Winnipeg. Rogers recruited Rick Fenton to produce his debut album, True Stories, in 2004. * Around the time Rogers published True Stories, he began to develop his throat singing skills. * He has since added a stomp box to his shows to ensure a smoother performance, and Mongolian and Tuvan throat singing are included. Rogers has been to Iqaluit to study Inuit throat singing and Tuvan styles. Rogers' second album, The Gauntlet, was released in 2009. * Fogarty's Cove Music is behind the album, and Borealis Records has it out. Rogers was on board the Clipper Adventurer in 2010 when she landed on an uncharted rock in Coronation Bay, Northwest Territories, and Rogers joined forces with Leonard Podolak and JD Edwards to form a new folk music power trio named Dry Bones. * They released a self-titled CD in Winnipeg, Scott Nolan's production, titled Golden Boy, which featured a cappella version of Stan Rogers' "Barts Privateers." In this video, Nathan Rogers paid tribute to Slim by being part of the men's singing group behind him.
