Myla Dalbesio Career

Career

Myla Grace Dalbesio, a 16-year-old girl from Racine, Wisconsin, was named Miss Wisconsin Teen USA 2004 in Lake Delton, Wisconsin, during her first attempt at the state teen championship on September 20, 2003. She was scouted by Missouri talent agents Jeff and Mary Clarke, who attempted to place her in regular-size modeling at the pageant. In the 2004 Miss Teen-USA pageant in Palm Springs, California, she did not appear in the 15 semi-finalists.

Dalbesio was eventually registered by the Ford Modeling Agency as a plus-size model (size 10), after being refused by "straight-size" model agents at a youth parade in St. Louis, Missouri, when she arrived in for a meeting at age 18.

She has appeared in editorials for publications including LOVE, Purple, Vogue India, Dazed & Confused, Lui, Bon, Oyster, Twin, Viva Moda, Elle France, and Elle Italia.

Dalbesio appeared on the front page of Lady magazine in December 2014, photographing Daniel Arnold. She was featured on the front page of Tush Magazine, photographed by Armin Morbach, on Glamour Iceland, Madame, Lifetsyle, Suited, Feeling, and a self-portrait for P Magazine in April 2015.

In 2014, Dalbesio was selected for Calvin Klein's "Perfectly Fit" underwear campaign. There was some controversy surrounding her name, "plus-size." Dalbesio said in an interview with Elle magazine that although she was larger than previous models used in Klein campaigns, she considers herself "in-between" rather than larger.

Dalbesio was on Models.com's "Hot List" in 2015 and Maxim magazine's Top 100 for 2015.

Dalbesio has worked in adverts for Intimissimi, H&M, Levis, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Coach.

She was branded the face and brand ambassador for Prima Donna Lingerie from 2016 to 2019. In 2019, she created an exclusive capsule collection for Prima Donna. The range featured lingerie, swimwear, and sportswear for women with a larger cup size and a streetwear sensibility.

Dalbesio's first non-nude issue of Playboy was photographed in 2016.

Dalbesio made her debut in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in 2017 and continued to appear in the swimsuit journal for four years.

She had three performance art shows in 2011, including Homecoming, Homecoming: Sophomore Year, and her Young Money exhibition. The New York Times praised her latest performance art work, Young Money, for its favorable review.

Dalbesio has exhibited her work internationally and has published two books. Born Rich was published by Edition Faust in 2013, and Melville Brand Design's second book, Studies of Ecstasy, was published in 2015.

Dalbesio's all-female art exhibition for the New York-based fair SPRING/BREAK in 2016. The show featured artists, entitled You Can Call Me Baby, because their works "aimed to reclaim symbols traditionally used to shame women." Critics lauded the show, including critic Paddy Johnson's glowing review.

In his list of the Top Art Shows of 2016, critic Jerry Saltz included the show in his list of the Top Art Shows of 2016.

Dalbesio's photographs have appeared in magazines such as Playgirl, Playboy, HEARTS, 2003, and P Magazine, the latter of which included both interior and cover appearances.

With curator Jayne Johnson, she launched Our Stories, Ourselves in 2017, which serves as a "non-partisan space for women to share their experiences" in video responses to weekly prompts.

Dalbesio has written short essays for a variety of magazines, including Suited, Twin Magazine, and Oyster, as well as writing "Girl on Girl," a Elle.com column.
